The US Air Force Program Management Office (PMO) facilitates the design and execution of repair and construction of Military Family Housing (MFH) facilities.

Job Description:

Cherokee Nation Businesses is looking for an Senior Architect for work at Kadena Air Base to support the US Air Force Program Management Office (PMO) on the design and execution of repair and construction of Military Family Housing (MFH) facilities.  The individual will provide project management support and lead in-depth technical reviews of large and small projects as part of our company’s on-site engineering team.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (Deliverables):

Includes the following (Other duties may be assigned):

  • The individual will provide detailed technical reviews in their functional area for design and construction documents to help the client manage the revitalization of all DoD military housing in Okinawa.
  • In addition to technical reviews, the engineer will be responsible for managing specific housing projects and assisting in all aspects of project planning, acquisition, and execution. Project work will include analysis and application of UFC and Japan-specific codes to design and construction facilities. Will serve as liaison with the Army Corps of Engineers or other design agencies.
  • Provide Planning, Programming, Engineering, Production Control, Inspection, and Project Management support.
  • Must be able to work with a wide cross section of clients (e.g., engineers, real property, contracting) and Cherokee employees to find solid win-win solutions using internal Air Force civil works and procurement processes for the repair, modernization, and construction of housing-related facilities and infrastructure. This work supports highly visible initiatives including the restructuring of US forces between Okinawa, Guam, and other locations.
  • Perform other job-related duties as required.

Supervisory/Management Authority:

  • This is not a supervisory position, but will require providing mentorship, peer review assistance, and technical and professional leadership to colleagues (Cherokee, other contractors, and government personnel).

Education and/or Experience:

  • Ten-years of relevant experience working with US military/DoD facilities and requirements.
  • At least one year of experience working directly with US military/DoD engineering personnel, preferably within an Air Force Civil Engineering Squadron.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in architecture or equivalent.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a US Air Force NACI/SF85 for unescorted access to on-base facilities.
  • PMP desired

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:  

  • Demonstrated track record of managing wide range of projects and personnel across functional disciplines, such as contracting, engineering, finance, contractors, and stakeholders.
  • Experience managing programs with similar complexity with US Air Force, Army, Navy, or Marine Corps.
  • Excellent English communication and computer skills.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This position is primarily performed in an office environment on US military base in Japan.  Requires local travel to project sites in Okinawa.
