SUMMARY

Cherokee Nation Technologies has been tasked to develop and manage research programs for major technical investigations in the area of ballistics and explosive event research and development, armoring and applied programmatic research for the Department of State. Focus placed on development and validation of new armor systems that offer lighter weight or performance improvement alternatives compared to currently approved materials for both opaque and transparent systems.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

General:

  • Develop and manage characterization and evaluation programs of armored vehicle systems, subsystem and components, to include statements of work and other contract support documents, test plan development, and execution oversight.
  • Provide engineering oversight to characterization and validation testing of automotive performance and survivability requirements of commercial armored vehicles.
  • Develop and manage requirements definitions and documentation to support the successful acquisition and sustainment of a sizeable fleet of commercial armored vehicles.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert in regards to armor material development and integration or automotive performance enhancements as they relate to commercial armored vehicle.
  • Support the program office in implementing closed loop failure reporting and corrective action systems and configuration management systems amongst its various commercial armored vehicle suppliers as they develop and produce first article units.
  • Support the program office in the acquisition of commercial armored vehicles through engineering assessment of candidate platforms and knowledge of commercial armoring standards, test protocols, and federal performance standards.
  • Develop and manage applied research programs to evaluate armor systems of interest and their integration into commercial armored vehicle platforms.
  • Develop and manage programs to investigate automotive upgrades to enhance the payload and performance of commercial armored vehicles. Focus placed on increased payload, improved braking and improved power output to ensure adequate vehicle handling and response required to perform vehicle escape and evade maneuvers.

 

PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Interact as the primary point of contact to multiple government and private sector test facilities.
  2. Technical responsibility for subsystem structural analysis and vehicle integration.
  3. Technical responsibility for the implementation of suspension, chassis, wheel, tire, brake and power output enhancement for commercial armored vehicle platforms
  4. Project Management ownership for major technical projects including but not limited to organizing project path, tracking project cost, communicating, maintaining data and advising management group of findings.
  5. Investigate new technologies to significantly improve performance, improve the current state of the art, and guide system engineers in the application of technologies in designing of new products.
  6. Responsible for the completion of major projects on schedule and budget.

 

SUPERVISORY/MANAGEMENT AUTHORITY

This position will not have supervisory or management authority.

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Possess or be able to obtain a TOP SECRET clearance
  • B.S. Degree in Engineering, Physics, or Material Science from an accredited university.
  • At least 3 years of experience as an Engineer and has mastered all relevant technical and analytical tools.
  • Focus and independent drive to complete tasks
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills
  • Strong communication skills – written and verbal
  • U.S. Citizen

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Preference given to B.S. in Material Science or Chemical Engineering from an accredited university with a specialization in chemistry, chemical interactions, ceramics or metallurgy.
  • Preference given to B.S. in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering from an accredited university with experience working for a major automotive OEM or tier-1 supplier to the OEMs that has background designing suspension or electronic control systems.
  • Consideration given for at least one year of experience supporting Department of Defense or other federal agencies in major acquisition programs.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The duties of this position are primarily performed in a climate controlled office environment. Occasional travel and overnight stay may be required..
