The WRAIR aims to conduct biomedical research that is responsive to Department of Defense and US Army requirements and delivers lifesaving products including knowledge, technology and medical material that sustain the combat effectiveness of the Warfighter.

We are seeking a Bioinformatist to work at the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research in Silver Spring, MD.
 
Responsibilities:

  • Search, and investigate hardware and software capabilities including academic, open source and commercially available systems.
  • Test and document software, hardware and interface requirements.
  • Assist lead personnel in analyzing problems to develop solutions involving computer hardware and software.
  • Manipulate publicly accessible, commercial, or proprietary genomic, clinical-related databases
  • Submits reports and data summaries required to prepare research results for presentation and publication in the scientific literature.
  • Conduct data entry into databases and facilitate database management.
  • Conduct analysis as assigned by senior personnel.
  • Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's) as laid out by senior personnel to generate reports and documents as required.
  • Required to attend safety training relative to his/her position.
  • Attend relevant seminars and meetings to the MRSN as dictated by senior personnel.

Qualifications:

  • M.S., B.A. or B.S. in Biology, Microbiology, Virology, Computer Science, Computational Biology.

Desired Skills:

  • Demonstrated interdisciplinary knowledge in both biology and computer science either in coursework, continuing education or previous professional experience.
  • Ability to work on the command line, bash scripting.
