The U.S. Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases (USAMRIID) at Fort Detrick, Maryland conducts basic and applied research to develop products, information, procedures, strategies, and training programs, and provides for medical defense against biological threats and naturally occurring infectious diseases of military significance that require biocontainment.

The Information Management Division purpose is to enable the research vision of USAMRIID with first-class computer and communication services. This is accomplished by providing IM/IT management, strategic planning, IM/IT infrastructure, software application development and sustainment, communication, network, information assurance compliance and Help Desk services.

We are seeking an experienced Information Assurance Engineer work with the United States Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases (USAMRIID), to aid in the mission to provide Information Management/Information Technology (IM/IT) resources for rapid, accurate, and secure acquisition, storage, retrieval, and transfer of information.

Responsibilities:

  • Uses Defense Medical Logistics Standard Support (DMLSS) to track all maintenance or services performed. Work requests shall be updated daily with all services performed.
  • Performs work based upon the priority of the work assigned IAW medical maintenance internal SOP.
  • Information Assurance duties to include enforcement of Information Assurance Vulnerability Management (IAVM) dissemination, reporting, compliance, and verification procedures as described in regulations, policies and Best Business Practices (BPPs).
  • Reports security violations and incidents to the servicing RCERT in accordance with Incident and Intrusion Response policy.
  • Ensures the use of Army/MEDCOM approved procedures for clearing, purging, reusing, and releasing system memory, media, output, and devices.
  • Identifies data ownership (including accountability, access, and special handling requirements) for each information system (IS) or network within their authority.
  • Verifies that all ISs within the scope of responsibility are properly certified and accredited in accordance with RMF and CM policies and practices before operating or authorizing the use of hardware and software on an IS or network.
  • Implements and maintains all required IA guidance, policies, procedures and regulations as directed and as resources permit.
  • Maintains audit and data logs.
  • Provides technical Tier III support on IA issues to Help Desk and Technicians.
  • Provides specific cyber training to other USAMRIID personnel as required.
  • Enforces cyber policy, guidance, and training requirements per regulation and identified BBPs.
  • Ensures log files and audits are maintained and reviewed for all systems and that authentication (for example, password) policies are audited for compliance.
  • Prepares, distributes, and maintains plans, instructions, and SOPs concerning system security.
  • Reviews and evaluates the effects on security of system changes, including interfaces with other ISs and document all changes.
  • Ensures that all ISs within their area of responsibility are certified, accredited and reaccredited.
  • Maintains current software licenses and ensure security related documentation is current and accessible to properly authorized individuals.
  • Reports security violations and incidents to the Chief, Medical Maintenance in accordance with regulations and policies.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in a related technical discipline, or the equivalent combination of education, technical certifications or training, or work experience.
  • Within 6 months of hire, must have A+ certification and Network + and / or Security + certifications are required at time of hire in order to meet the baseline and computing environment certification.
  • 7 + years of related experience working in a research laboratory
  • A favorable National Agency Check (NAC) and National Agency Investigations leading to a secret clearance
  • Must be eligible for enrollment in the Army Biological Personnel Reliability Program (BPRP)
  • Must enter Biosafety Level-2, -3, and -4 research suite areas to perform work as required. Enrollment in the Biological Personnel Reliability Program (BPRP) for handling select agents is required and must be maintained.
  • Must have a favorably adjudicated Single Scoped Background Investigation (SSBI) completed.
  • An FBI Security Risk Assessment (SRA) must also be completed and approved.
  • Must be a US citizen
