Our client the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Wetland and Aquatic Research Center – Florida (WARC-FL) is a research center that studies the biology and ecology of aquatic environments in the United States and around the world. Founded in 2009, WARC-FL was created to bring together scientific experts in biology and ecology throughout the Southeastern U.S. and Caribbean.

The WARC-FL scientists apply their expertise to a variety of wetland and aquatic research and monitoring issues that require coordinated, integrated efforts to better understand natural environments. By increasing basic understanding of the biology of important species and broader ecological processes, this research provides information to policy-makers and aids managers in their stewardship of natural resources and regulatory functions.

We are seeking a Business Support Specialist which requires administrative support services for governmental functions at the Center to ensure continued operation to meet mission requirements. The function of the Administrative Unit is to provide personnel, budget, purchasing, and travel arranger services which supports more than 100 scientists and management staff (based in Florida/Louisiana) of the Wetland and Aquatic Research Center.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with domestic travel authorization and voucher preparation, and form routing. Including use of applicable Federal Government travel rules, regulations, and software.
  • Provide office logistics and meetings.
  • Assist Center Administrative staff with office logistics, meetings, and receptionist duties and Time and Attendance.
  • Assist with timekeeper duties bi-weekly to validate entry of time and attendance, documentation, forms, reports and approval routing and filing and Credit card reconciliation.
  • Assist with the review of bankcard statements, assure receipts are attached monthly and logs are current.
  • Assist with data entry expenditure adjustments.

 

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma and at least one (1) year of previous job experience which include administrative, financial, accounting, or budget analysis focus
  • Have good typing skills and Be familiar with PC computer based systems and electronic mail programs and have a good working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Experience and use Internet Explorer or other similar web browsers.
  • Work as part of a group with changing priorities and deadlines and have good communication and inter-personal skills
  • Applicable training on GOV systems and software will be provided
  • Have the ability to successfully pass a drug screen and federal background check
