SUMMARY:

CNSS is looking for a Construction Civil Engineer to support the Natural Resource Conservation Services.  

The National Design, Construction and Soil Mechanics Center (NDCSMC) is made up of two staffs or branches. One staff is the NDCSMC-Design Center staff. This staff reviews complex engineering designs from field offices and state offices from across the agency. These projects are engineering structures, and many are projects involving human health and safety. The NDCSMC-Design Center has the highest level of engineering skills and disciplines within NRCS, but for some projects the NDCSMC may not have the necessary skills on board to per-form reviews needed to ensure public health and safety. The contracted skills are necessary to support NRCS staff to produce a robust design review.

Projects may be in any of the 48 contiguous states, Alaska, Hawaii, Caribbean Area (Puerto Rico and US Virgin Islands) and Pacific Basin Area (Guam, American Samoa, Micronesia, Pa-lau, Marian Islands, Marshal Islands).

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Engineering services for the design review of construction drawings for new or rehabilitated dam and other water resource related projects along with technical document development.
  • NRCS is seeking the services of engineers to assist with quality and technical reviews of pre-developed drawings or other technical documentation that could originate from the Government or Government contractors. Licensed Professional Engineer in at least from one state.

 

SUPERVISORY/MANAGEMENT AUTHORITY:

This position may require supervisory/management authority and responsibilities.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

  • Candidates must be US Citizens and/or be authorized to work in the United States of America. This position does not allow for sponsorship of a work visa.
  • Candidates will be subject to a US federal government background investigation and be able to favorably pass a drug screen.
  • Candidate must be a Licensed Professional Engineer in at least one state
  •  B.S. in Civil, Agricultural, Environmental, or Structural Engineering from an ABET accredited university/college
  • Minimum of 5 years proven experience in design and/or construction of engineering projects
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Utilizing and applying computer software including Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint).

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Experience with Department of State and USDA policies, standards, and specifications
  • Experience working in construction engineering related to a large-scale Federal effort.

 

WORK ENVIORNMENT:

This position is primarily performed in a secured federal office setting, a controlled office environment and/or exposed to outside climates and weather.
