The Office of Information Management Technology (OIMT) provides information technology and telecommunication support and services primarily to offices and staff for the Assistant Secretary for Indian Affairs (AS-IA), the Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) and the Bureau of Indian Education (BIE) organizations and locations throughout the Nation. The OIMT consists of 125 full time federal staff and additional contractor staff and manages the complex and diverse Information Technology infrastructure for the Indian Affairs federal workforce of 9000+ employees located in urban and rural areas throughout the country, and approximate 20 Education Line Offices and 64 BIE-operated schools located throughout the country.

Job Description:

We are seeking a Communication Specialist to support the efforts at the Bureau of Indian Affairs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Plan, initiate and manage communications for the OIMT.
  • Promote and expand the reach and impact of OIMT, improving external reputation with stakeholders and customers and improving engagement and accountability.
  • Manage the overall communications strategy, develop branding and messaging in order to promote the ACIO and its programs across various media outlets including as well as seminar and conference speaking opportunities, and the entire online realm of OIMT websites, blogs, wikis, social networks and related portals.
  • Support Development of Executive Communications Materials
  • Support Development of Materials for ACIO Town Hall and Other Key IT Executive Update Meetings
  • Support Development of Materials for ACIO Speaking Engagements
  • Support Development of Materials for OIMT Sponsored Forums
  • Support Stakeholder Outreach Efforts Through the Development of Presentations, Briefings, and White Papers
  • Develop and Support OIMT Stakeholder/Customer Surveys
  • Support Communications Needs for OIMT Functional Areas
  • Provide Subject Matter Expertise and Guidance for Development of OIMT Communications Strategy
  • Provide Recommendations for Service Improvements, Increased Customer Satisfaction, Develop Strategic Communications Processes and Documentation

  • OIMT Intranet and Internet Content Updates including Review Process and Procedure
  • Long Term Communications Plan

Supervisory/Management Authority:

This position does not have mgmt. authority or supervisory authority

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications or related area of study, or equivalent education/experience.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in communications or related experience.
  • Strong computer skills and software proficiency that includes Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and SharePoint).

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong oral and written communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to interact effectively at all levels
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to plan, coordinate and complete objectives;
  • Strong customer service skills,
  • Ability to manage competing priorities.

Work Environment:

This position is primarily performed in federal office setting in a controlled office environment
