SUMMARY

The Comprehensive Everglades Restoration Plan was authorized in 2000 by Congress to "restore, preserve, and protect the south Florida ecosystem while providing for other water-related needs of the region, including water supply and flood protection." As the plan enters the 20th year, a significant amount of data review and synthesis of all the different restoration projects will be taken to better understand the current benefit to ENP. This scientific assessment will assist the National Academy of Sciences and other scientific entities during the mid-course review of CERP progress with respect to Federal lands. Additionally, the information gained from this synthesis will then be used for further analysis to help resource managers “protect park resources unimpaired for future generations”.

The data collected and the hydrologic analysis conducted by the office are used to better understand the hydrology of southern Florida and are used as a resource for water managers in decision making.

Performs technical analysis in conjunction with partners at the South Florida Water Management District and the USGS to determine the effectiveness of current and proposed water management practices.

The position will work in close daily coordination with the Everglades National Park (ENP), the South Florida Natural Resources Center (SFNRC)

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Includes the following:

  • Supports database management to include managing large data files; and produce computerized reports.
  • Manage/merge data from multiple sources, examine data for trends, and generate reports in various formats
  • Provide data management, reporting and analysis support to study investigators using SPSS, R, SAS, and other statistical packages and tools (such as Excel, Tableau, and Python)
  • Assist in obtaining, managing, and analyzing the monthly data
  • Review project reports and findings. Review applications, data sets and models for anomalies to ensure accuracy.
  • Interpret and display data in a clear and concise manner.
  • Merge disparate data sets to create one large operational data set for analysis of trends using data architecture
  • Clean data sets and analyze for trends
  • Assist with linking data sets.

SUPERVISORY/MANAGEMENT AUTHORITY

This position will not have supervisory authority.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university, college or institution in the physical or biological sciences, mathematics, environmental health, or environmental policy, and at least one (3+) years of experience in an engineering or science related field.

Master’s Degree Desired

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Excellent communication skills, both oral & written in English
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Products, Adobe Products
  • Demonstrate the ability to carry out support tasks related to environmental management.
  • Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving abilities

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The duties of this position are primarily performed in a climate controlled office environment. No travel outside the local area is anticipated.
