DevOps/DBA Ft. Collins, CO (ID# 13550)

CNT is looking to fill the position of a senior Linux Systems / Database Administrator to join its current Systems Team which supports a small group of developers and a larger user base. The selected individual will need to have proven experience in performing Linux Administration at an expert level.  Experience with OpenShift will be a great plus for this position.  FWS uses Postgres for its database and experience with Postgres or a similar enterprise database is also required. This individual is expected to have the ability to mentor and assist team members and also work well within the team.

This is a multi-faceted position that also involves serving as DevOps engineer on a software development team, as well as working directly with product sponsors to gather their requirements for dichotomous keys and translate them into a component of the software. It also involves taking the lead on the team’s required security documentation and cross-team systems/environment initiatives, as well as responding to customer issues and periodically making priority fixes in the code.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Work directly with biologists to analyze, develop, and support dichotomous keys which provide Fish and Wildlife consultation determinations.
  • Perform DevOps tasks:
    • Proactively initiate and lead the communication and collaboration between the software development team and systems/operations team
    • Collaborate with developers to make sure new software designs and tools meet systems requirements and best practices for deployable and maintainable software
    • Set up, tune, and manage our continuous integration environment:
      • Be point person for Jenkins.
      • Monitor nightly regression runs in Jenkins
      • Handle deployments to our linux + tomcat + postgres environment and improve processes
      • Facilitate pushing more tests into the continuous integration system
    • Work with the Operations/Systems and other software development teams on common deployment and network operations issues
    • Increase automation for managing the applications in the server environments.
    • Troubleshoot error logs in beta and production environments
    • Set up monitoring of network, db, and web server performance, and troubleshoot issues
    • Address cross-team infrastructure upgrades and tasks
    • Run monthly usage reports
  • Address ongoing security documentation and tasks:
    • Write and update weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual security documentation

QUALIFICATIONS:

Superior Linux Systems Administration skills – proven including in depth knowledge of

  • Networking principles
  • Configuration management using an automated tool (CFengine, Ansible)
  • Kerberos
  • OpenSSL
  • Enterprise Database (Postgres) – proven
  • NFS
  • OpenShift
  • VMware
  • Familiarity with container and cloud technologies
  • Good prioritization and time management skills
  • Apache and Tomcat configuration experience
  • Experience in a Dev OPS environment
  • Familiarity with source repository software (SVN, Git, Bitbucket)
  • Experience with introduction of automation to processes
  • Foreman / Satellite experience
  • Passionate about defining processes and documenting
  • Experience working in Java environments
  • Experience with tools and technologies such as Postgres, Tomcat, Apache, Barracuda, Splunk, Jenkins, Artifactory, Git, and Jira
  • Excellent customer relations skills: skilled at working directly with customers on business analysis and requirements gathering and building products to meet their needs
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills with demonstrated tenacity in tracking down problems and collaborating with others on fixes
  • Ability to work independently and with little direct supervision
  • Experience following Scrum and Agile practices
  • Ability to provide leadership to the software development team concerning building secure and deployable software: champion standards, best practices, and process improvements; and suggest architecture improvements
  • Adept at documenting systems and network specifications and diagrams
  • Basic understanding of network topologies and common network protocols and services (DNS, HTTP(S), SSH, FTP, SMTP)
  • Strong experience with SQL
