Director of Business Development Washington, DC Area (ID#16771)

Cherokee Nation Businesses – Federal Solutions, is looking for a Director of Business Development for its businesses in the Environmental & Construction sector. This exciting opportunity will leverage the candidate’s leadership ability and experience in Federal Construction. With a $120 million in annual revenue, 20% growth per year, approximately 200 contracts and 750+ employees, Cherokee Nation Businesses’ (CNB) group of Federal Contracting Section 8(a) companies is well positioned to deliver expertise needed to solve complex technical issues. Federal Solutions provides an array of services for 12 of the 15 cabinet-level departments and agencies – from applications and data services to cybersecurity and national defense.

Develops business development objectives, initiatives and procedures. Assesses new markets and analyzes new business opportunities. Develops relationships with teaming partners and customers. Assists in writing, editing, and production of original and compliant proposal documents. Reviews the scope of solicitations


Includes the following (Other duties may be assigned):

  • Responsible for developing new market initiatives, assessing new markets and analyzing new business opportunities
  • Drives the Capture process of the proposals and assist in that effort
  • Participates in the formation and implementation of new business development strategies
  • Travels to customers and teaming partners to establish and maintain relationships
  • Manages Sales Force system by tracking and updating opportunities
  • Supports in writing, editing, and producing proposal documents that are distinctive, highly competitive, and fully compliant with RFP requirements
  • Reviews the scope of solicitations for requirements and need for and selection of teaming partners


No supervisory responsibility. Assignments received in broad terms with timelines and objectives set to achieve strategic goals of the Division for the Pipeline.


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing/Sales, Supply chain, Construction management or related field.
  • 15 Years of related experience in a construction related environment.
  • Direct Experience in developing business, and establishing relationships in a 8A, SBA, Hub Zoned construction related business  for an federal contractor is required


  • Acts in a Federal Business Development/Capture capacity, and is responsible for selling the Construction Management and Program/Project Services Portfolio to the Federal Government, Contracting Officers and Owners.
  • Good track record in establishing relationships with teaming partners and tracking business opportunities.
  • Word Processing software, database software, spreadsheet software.
  • Interpersonal skills; patience; problem solving skills; attention to detail; organization skills; accuracy; time management
  • At this level, supports highly complex opportunities
  • Gains access and manages relationships with senior level technical personnel and decision makers
  • Uncovers critical processes and validates operational strengths and challenges within the customer’s environment
  • Understands and knows construction scope and processes and can speak and present those capabilities of each of the Sectors LLC’s, to the clients and customer


This position will involve frequent local travel and roughly 50% of the time, this location will report and work out of the Washington, DC Office and require frequent travel and a professional office environment.
