Position: Documentation Specialist

The Department of State’s (DOS) Information Resource Management (IRM) Messaging Systems Office (MSO) is responsible for developing, implementing, operating, and supporting all Department-wide messaging systems and services. The Office manages the integration of emerging technologies with existing and planned messaging programs, and ensures messaging services are accessible to all offices of the Department and to other Federal agencies. Serving in a technology support role, MSO seeks a contractor to provide services and work products including technical systems development, integration, configuration, testing, deployment, and technical project management support for new systems and maintenance of existing ones to ensure MSO can achieve its mission.

SUMMARY

Documentation Specialist requirements include being responsible for creation, researching and analyzing documents to achieve business goals.  Develop working knowledge of division’s business process to achieve goals. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Includes the following:

  • Responsible for creation, researching and analyzing documents to achieve business goals.
  • Develop working knowledge of division’s business process to achieve goals. 
  • Prepare documentation using standard office software using templates and other document creating methods. 
  • Use approved style guide. 
  • Work with developers and other systems engineering staff to find necessary information to fill out templates. 
  • Performs other job related duties as required.

SUPERVISORY/MANAGEMENT AUTHORITY

No supervisory or management authority.

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

3-5 years of experience in Tech Writing or a similar job function

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Ability to multitask.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to find the answers for complex tasks.
  • Ability to use standard Microsoft office applications.
  • Strong research ability as well as desire to learn new technologies/methods.
  • Ability to be advocate for methods and processes. 
  • Ability to proofread other staff’s documents.
  • Ability to build diagrams and other complex systems documentation.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work will be performed in a climate controlled office environment.
