The US Air Force is responsible for over 8,000 MFH units in Okinawa including about $500M in active design and construction projects across Military Construction (MILCON), Facility Real Property Maintenance by Contract (RPMC), and Unspecified Minor Military Construction (UMMC) programs island-wide. 

Cherokee Nation Businesses is searching for an experience engineering Project Manager to support Cherokee and the Military Family Housing (MFH) Program Management Office (PMO) at Kadena Air Base, Japan.

Job Description:

Candidate will work as part of our company’s on-site engineering team to assist across a wide variety of housing-related projects. In particular, the Project Manager will be responsible for working with various clients, experts, and contractors to proactively develop project documents, anticipate project needs, and communicate effectively. Project Manager will liaison with the Army Corps of Engineers or other design agencies and coordinate projects with team members and other stakeholders and contractors in a variety of disciplines on technical issues throughout the project lifecycle

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (Deliverables):

Includes the following (Other duties may be assigned):

  • Project Manager will be responsible for managing specific housing projects and assisting in all aspects of project planning, acquisition, and execution. Project work will include analysis and application of UFC and Japan-specific codes to design and construction facilities. Will serve as liaison with the Army Corps of Engineers or other design agencies.
  • Provide Planning, Programming, Engineering, Production Control, Inspection, and Project Management support.
  • Must be able to work with a wide cross section of clients (e.g., engineers, real property, contracting) and Cherokee employees to find solutions for the repair, modernization, and construction of housing-related facilities and infrastructure. This work supports highly visible initiatives including the restructuring of US forces between Okinawa, Guam, and other locations.

Supervisory/Management Authority:

This position does not have supervisory/management responsibility, however you will provide mentorship, peer review assistance, and technical and professional leadership to colleagues

Education and/or Experience:

  • Three-years of relevant experience working with US military/DoD facilities and requirements.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in relevant field, or equivalent experience; advanced degree is a plus.
  • PMP desired

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:  

  • Experience managing programs with similar complexity with US Air Force, Army, Navy, or Marine Corps.
  • Demonstrated track record of working across disciplines such as contracting, engineering, finance, contractors, and stakeholders so proactively manage project cost, schedule, and quality.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a US Air Force NACI/SF85 for unescorted access to on-base facilities.
  • Excellent English communication and computer skills.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • This position is primarily performed in an Office environment on US military base in Japan
  • Requires local travel to project sites in Okinawa
