The scope of the Scientific, Research and Administrative Support Effort is to provide support to National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases (NCIRD), Division of Viral Diseases (DVD), Viral Gastroenteritis Branch (VGB) within the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Atlanta, Georgia. The DVD prevents disease, disability, and death through immunization and by control of respiratory, enteric, and related viral diseases.


The Epidemiologist II will be responsible for carrying out a range of investigative and analytical epidemiologic activities related to the surveillance, detection, and prevention of diseases related to VGB. The Epidemiologist II will work as a team or project member, under the direction of a Senior Epidemiologist, conducting routine epidemiologic functions comprising surveillance, data collection, data analysis using basic epidemiologic methods, and assistance with epidemiologic investigations.



The contractor will apply specialized skills to conduct work including one or multiple of the following tasks:

  • Provide support for emergency response events/outbreaks   
  • Provide technical assistance to recipients of a CDC Organizational Components funds to improve administrative systems and programmatic activities. This may include:
  • Conceptualize and/or organize and help with the actual conduct of various domestic and international public health and material management projects and tasks in support the international and domestic projects supported by DVD
  • Provide technical and analytical support to public and private non-profit and for-profit organizations, governments and their agencies, universities, colleges, research institutions, hospitals, state and local governments or their bona fide agents, and faith-based organizations to advance the domestic and international goals and objectives of a particular CDC organizational unit
  • Advise and assist with program content development for public dissemination (e.g., web page design and maintenance)
  • Advise and assist with dealing with domestic and international issues and roles with other federal agencies and with the management of cross-cutting responsibilities with such agencies
  • Provide on-site, assistance in planning, conducting, and evaluating programs
  • Develop written guidance and document development, duplication, and distribution (electronic or print)
  • Convene groups of people, as needed to conduct training or technical assistance activities
  • Implement scientific methodology or advisement to determine disease etiology and control



No supervisory or management authority.



  • MS or MPH and 2+ years of experience



  • Ability to complete deadlines
  • Excellent technical writing skills
  • Solid knowledge in epidemiology, preventive medicine and public health and remains current on public health events
  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills and able to collaborate with others on projects and investigations
