Cherokee Nation Technologies (CNT) supports USGS Lower Mississippi-Gulf Water Science Center in its leadership role in the field collection, computation, and interpretation of hydraulic data from a network of crest-stage gages and data loggers in and around Montgomery, Alabama. LMGWSC is currently involved in a project in support of ALDOT which involves the operation and maintenance of 12 crest-stage gages, including their associated data loggers, and assistance in the computation and interpretation of the resulting data. The network is located on selected streams in and around the City of Montgomery, Alabama

 

CNT is looking to hire a high level Hydrologic Technician on a part-time basis to support our team in the following functions:

 

Responsibilities:

  • Secure equipment and supplies to operate and maintain the crest-stage gage network
  • Perform safe operation of U.S. Government vehicle and drive to and from field sites
  • May assist in running periodic levels, per client guidelines and protocols
  • Service crest-stage gages according to client guidelines and protocols, record data from crest-stage gages and download continuous data from the onsite data loggers
  • Assist in data compilation, computation, and interpretation may be necessary; any repairs necessary to ensure gages continue to collect accurate data will be conducted as soon as possible
  • Once site visit has been completed, the contractor will reset the gages to ensure accurate operation until the next scheduled site visit
  • Unload any equipment to prepare the vehicle for use by other client personnel at the client office, complete field trip documentation, and compile and communicate resulting data, computations, and interpretations to the project manager for assessment and entry into the USGS database

 

Qualifications:

  • A B.S. in Hydrology, Civil Engineering or a closely related field is required
  • Relevant hydrology research experience is a must
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and be physically able to function in the field,
  • Have a worthy skill in running levels, servicing crest-stage gages, communicating with data loggers, computing and interpreting hydraulic data, and making recommendations to the project manager to increase the efficacy and accuracy of the network
  • Previous experience in stream-profile techniques, such as open-channel flow and step-backwater analyses is required
  • Ability to follow detailed coordination on data collection and field safety procedures
  • Be a devoted, dependable employee, with a strong desire to learn new tasks and possess strong work ethic
  • Strong communication skills to interact with other client staff in a professional and respectful manner
  • Ability to successfully pass a federal background check and drug screen is mandatory
