Our client’s vision is to be the integrated, customer-focused epidemiologic and global health surveillance proponent for the U.S. Armed Forces.  The Armed Forces Health Surveillance Branch (AFHSB) provides timely, relevant, actionable, and comprehensive health surveillance information in order to promote, maintain, and enhance the health of military and military-associated populations.

We are seeking an Epidemiologist to aid in that mission.

Responsibilities:

  • Supports an effective Department of Defense biosurveillance program and operational mission.
  • Effectively liaise with AFHSB internal and external USG and non-USG partners leading to the successful establishment of collaborations and/or partnerships.
  • Assist in meeting information requirements of Combatant Commands (CCMDs) and other military and civilian programs and projects.
  • Coordinate the gathering and assembly of data related to specific projects and perform detailed scientific analysis.
  • Conduct public health related statistical analysis using “R” programming and create visualizations using the “R Shiny” analysis tool.
  • Support collaborations across the AFHSB to develop and enhance AFHSB biosurveillance information products integrating data and information from various sources.
  • Prepare and present formal and informal presentations to military, other government and civilian publications, and provide mentoring and informal and formal teaching to the staff.

 

Qualifications:

  • Familiarity and experience with monitoring syndromic surveillance systems (ESSENCE Preferred).
  • Master degree in Epidemiology, Public Health or closely related field.
  • Experience with modeling/forecasting research as it relates to infectious diseases
  • Ability to conduct statistical analyses using “R” programming.
  • Ability to create visualizations using “R Shiny” programming application.
  • Excellent oral and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Organizational skills.
  • Minimum of five years of public health experience.
