The candidate shall provide Infection Preventionist (IP) services in support of the Military Treatment Facility (MTF) at Tinker Air Force Base, Oklahoma City, OK to administer and guide all elements of the MTF’s Infection Prevention and Control Program (IPCP) to include all buildings and geographically separated units (GSU) associated with the MTF.



  • The candidate shall advise senior leadership about program status and any IPC concerns. The IPCP focuses on preventing and controlling infections in patients, staff, visitors and the MTF environment. The IPCP involves all MTF personnel, assigned Air Guard and Reserve personnel, personnel assigned in training and residency programs, vendors, visitors and volunteers.
  • They will be responsible for implementing the Infection Prevention and Control Program
  • Perform through an annual self-inspection to determine if there is sufficient evidence of MTF’s compliance or noncompliance in accordance with regulatory standards below:
  • AFI 44-108 Prevention and Control Program
  • AFI 90-201, Air Force Inspection System
  • AFI 44-119, Medical Quality Operations
  • The Joint Commission (TJC) standards appropriate for facility types
  • The Air Force Inspection Agency Unit Effectiveness Inspection
  • Candidates will provide assessment of IPC program to the Infection Prevention and Control Function (IPCF) Chair and shares with IPCF at quarterly meetings.
  • They will complete annual self-inspection to assess sufficient evidence of MTF’s compliance or non-compliance listed regulatory standards/guidelines.
  • Ensures the annual ICRA is developed and adequately prioritizes risks according to the level of probability and potential for harm. Ensures coordination of ICRA development with other team members.
  • Schedule, attend and provide an agenda for monthly meetings with the customer
  • Performs IPC-related surveillance
  • Applies epidemiological principles and statistical methods to break the chain of infectious processes and facilitate evidence-based practices
  • Verifies current standards are implemented throughout the MTF.
  • Membership and participation in the following groups:
  • Safety or Environment of Care Committee
  • Product Evaluation Committee
  • Patient Safety Committee
  • Space Utilization Committee
  • Medical Readiness Staff Function
  • Nursing Executive Function
  • Executive Committee of the Medical Staff (ECOMS)
  • Advises, collaboration, and consults with the following staff/groups:
  • IPCF
  • TJC Environmental of Care program Committee
  • Nurse Executive Council
  • Performance Improvement Council



This position does not have any management authority and/or supervisory capacity


  • Candidates must have US Citizenship as a requirement of the position.
  • Incumbent must be able to pass a US federal government background investigation and favorably pass a drug screen
  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, Public Health, Epidemiology or Microbiology from a nationally recognized accredited college and/or university program.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of current experience in infection prevention and control performed within the past four (4) years.
  • Experience working with US government and/or military laboratory research facilities preferred but not required.


  • Candidates must have an active and current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.
  • Local domestic travel will be required on an as needed basis’s.
  • Must be highly organized and have excellent oral and written communication skills in order to interface with personnel and other government agencies as well.



Work will be primarily performed within a sterile laboratory environment and/or office controlled environment.
