The purpose of the IT Help Desk Support Specialist is to provide administrative support services to the domestic Bureau of East Asian and Pacific Affairs (EAP) i.e. EX – FO – K – ANP – CM – EP – MLS – PD – RSP & TC. The primary objective is to provide contractor IT services and deliverables to meet the Bureau’s mission.


Job Description:

Serving as a systems support specialist in the East Asian and Pacific Affairs (EAP) bureau, this is an entry-level IT professional with a high degree of organization, resourcefulness, tact, and customer service/interpersonal skills.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities (Deliverables):

Includes the following (Other duties may be assigned):

  • Provide general IT and administrative support on a team of six Systems staff supporting EAP’s 230 domestic users.
  • Help desk support for out-of-scope, non-consolidated IT services
  • Mobile device (phone, tablet, laptop) support, troubleshooting, and inventory control
  • Desk side, ad hoc user support for Windows workstations, laptops, tablets, and smart phones
  • Install/move computer hardware, monitors, printers, multi-function devices, etc. Tidy the wiring.
  • Provide basic user training in Microsoft Windows, Office 365, DOS applications, systems, etc.
  • Reload & configure software on laptops
  • Assist with digital video conferencing (DVC) and secure phone technologies
  • Liaise with Information Resource Management (IRM) Bureau staff for consolidated IT services
  • Coordinate IRM services to EAP domestic offices and IRM personnel at 46 overseas posts
  • Stay current on technology trends to support EAP’s mission
  • Suggest areas for technology advancement and recommend equipment purchases/upgrades
  • Serve as a backup SharePoint Administrator



Supervisory/Management Authority:

This position does not have management or supervisory capacity.

Education and/or Experience:

  • High School diploma or equivalent required, Information Science Degree preferred.
  • 2-5 years of IT desktop support including imaging PC, user instruction, troubleshooting, and audio/visual conferencing
  • Experience with  SharePoint
  • Excellent customer service and multi-tasking skills.
  • Top secret clearance required

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:  (example: specific software, soft skills, etc. – This gets deleted)

  • In-depth knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite is essential.
  • Must be able to organize routine data and maintain established procedures.
  • Must be able to work with all levels of personnel and inter-departmently and operate courteously and tactfully.
