The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) is the premier federal agency charged with protecting and enhancing America's treasured fish, wildlife, plants, and their habitats. USFWS maintains a network of public lands totaling upwards of 150 million acres split into eight (8) geographic regions and nearly 700 field stations.

CNT is looking for Part-time Java Developer to help support the efforts of the USFWS.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for developing, testing, implementing and maintaining web-based application systems
  • Troubleshoot system problems and issues and looks for ways to improve the application
  • Perform routine programming assignments that do not require domain knowledge or experience but do require knowledge of established programming procedures and data processing requirements
  • Rely on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job

Supervisory/Management Authority:

  • This position does not have mgmt. authority or supervisory functions

Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science or a related curriculum or equivalent
  • Four years Java development experience in an increasingly responsible position
  • JEE programming skills (JSP/Java, with Groovy experience preferred)
  • Experience with Web Frameworks (Grails, Spring, Struts preferred)
  • Experience with Object Relational Mapping frameworks (Hibernate, JPA, GORM preferred)
  • Experience with Relational Databases and experience with Drupal
  • Experience with client side interactivity and design using JavaScript, XHTML or HTML5, and CSS (JQuery or Twitter Bootstrap preferred) as well as experience with Apache Tomcat
  • Experience with Linux operating systems preferred and some experience with cloud-based technologies (Amazon AWS preferred)

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:  

  • Working knowledge of Java, Groovy, Grails, Web Applications, Ajax, JavaScript, JQuery, Bootstrap
  • Ability to work under pressure to meeting deadlines
  • Work autonomously but in a team environment
  • Excellent communication skills (written and oral)
  • Excellent attention to detail and responsiveness to visual senses
  • Ability to be on your feet for good portions of the day as well as occasionally lift 20 lbs. to 50 lbs.
  • Successfully pass a drug screen and federal background check
  • Ability to obtain a Public Trust may apply

Work Environment:

  • This position is in a secured federal office setting, a controlled office environment
