SUMMARY

The Polio and Picornavirus Laboratory Branch (PPLB), Division of Viral Diseases, National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases, CDC, provides laboratory assistance, technical expertise and support for surveillance and related activities to monitor impact of vaccination and other prevention programs, and determine patterns of infection and disease. CNA is hiring a Laboratory Data Manager III to support PPLB in compliance with CDC and federal safety regulations in addition to DHS and USDA Select Agent Regulations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Conducting laboratory data management including but not limited to the following:

  • The Lab Data Manager will use database management tools and database scripting languages for maintaining, troubleshooting, updating, and developing Microsoft Access and RedCap databases
  • Write SQL queries, produce reports, and provide updates for internal and external collaborators
  • Analysis of raw data from multiplex instruments using Excel and summarizing for client
  • Prepare reports, charts, and graphs, and present data at internal lab meetings
  • Provide assistance to laboratorians on the use of database management tools
  • Create documentation on data-related tasks and processes
  • Develop ELISpot protocols for various research projects involved in immune responses to poliovirus & other non-polio Enteroviruses including but not limited to:
    • Virus stock preparation & purification
    • Virus titration
    • Virus inactivation by chemical or radioactive methods & antigen quantitation
    • Preparation of lymphocyte specimens from animals or human donors for analysis
    • Using an ELISpot reader instrument to collect data

SUPERVISORY/MANAGEMENT AUTHORITY

No supervisory authority.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
5 or more year’s relevant experience and a bachelor’s or higher degree with at least 24 semester hours in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Experience developing and analyzing neutralization assays
  • Experience processing specimens and isolating viruses according to WHO-standard protocols
  • Experience performing specimen management activities
  • Experience developing flow cytometry protocols

Work is conducted in a laboratory and office environment.
