Since 1969, the U.S. Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases (USAMRIID) has served as the Department of Defense's (DoD) lead laboratory for medical biological defense research. While its core mission is to protect the warfighter from biological threats, USAMRIID also investigate disease outbreaks and threats to public health. Research conducted at USAMRIID leads to medical solutions—therapeutics, vaccines, diagnostics, and information—that benefit both military personnel and civilians. USAMRIID is a subordinate laboratory of the U.S. Army Medical Research and Materiel Command.

Seeking a Laboratory Technician to provide support research efforts for the Diagnostic Systems Division.  The Contractor will provide technical laboratory support performing laboratory experiments in BSL2 and BSL3 laboratories in compliance with FDA Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) (21 CFR) regulations and other applicable regulations and guidelines (i.e. CLIP, COLA, ISO). Experiments include, but are not limited to, qualitative and quantitative Real Time-Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR), reagent and assay validation and qualification, production of data and reports in support of transitioning diagnostics, using a variety of manual, automated and semi-automated technology.  Laboratory work involves the use and handling of common pathogenic bacteria as well as biologic and biologically derived materials that may also pose a pathogenic risk.

 

Qualifications:

  • Perform manual, semi-automated and automated experiments and procedures in support of the GLP PCR and PCR-like work, including PCR, immunoassays, sample preparation and DNA/RNA extraction and purifications as well as common microbiology techniques in BSL-2 and BSL-3 environments. Workload is between Workload between 3,000 and 8,000 RT-PCR assays and 1,500 to 4,000 extractions, 80 to 100 immunoassays.
  • Support the Special Pathogens Laboratory to include, generating and collecting data, reports, findings, providing feedback when requested.
  • Maintain the laboratory facility and equipment; ensure the safety and cleanliness of work areas and equipment, with less than 1% findings annually and zero (0) serious findings as defined by the applicable regulations and guidelines.
  • Ensure all experiments are performed and documented IAW applicable regulations dictated by study protocol (i.e. GLP, FDA Animal Rule, CLIP, COLA).
  • Hold and maintain BPRP status IAW the provisions in this contract and applicable regulations.
     

 Requirements:

  • B.S. in a science discipline
  • 3+ years’ experience in the Lab Technical Research
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Require work at the BSL-2, 3 and 4 level, therefore, must maintain enrollment in the BPRP program.
