Cherokee Nation Technologies (CNT) supports the U.S. Geologic Survey (USGS) across the United States. CNT is currently looking for a Marine Geologist to assist the USGS, at their St. Petersburg, FL, site.

 

CNT is currently looking for a Marine Geologist – Scientist VI level to provide technical expertise and assist in the research and mission

 

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the collection, analysis and interpretation of marine geologic data, including sediment transport processes, sediment fluxes, and the impacts of coastal storms and long-term changes on the coastal sediments.
  • Coordinate with lead client PI and participate in field work relating to the study of the geology of barrier islands, sediment transport processes, and the geologic assessment relevant to broad-scale coastal evolution.
  • Lead in the collection and analyses of various sample types along with field work
  • Guide the scientific research and applications to coastal restoration as part of ongoing work at Fire Island, Northeast and Mid-Atlantic coasts, Gulf of Mexico, and other priority areas as needed
  • Collect marine geophysical data during multiple, planned fieldwork excursions in support of several funded projects
  • Coordinate and communicate within and between related projects to achieve continuity across projects.
  • Write summary of results to be used in scientific journal article or report

 

Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. and five (5) or more years or related work experience at a Ph.D. level is required  
  • Understanding bathymetric and geophysical data acquisition and processing
  • Familiarity in research-project admiration within USGS, including budgeting and reporting requirement and methods
  • Experience publishing in peer-reviewed journals
  • Knowledge with geographic settings impacted by hurricanes, including post-storm recovery processes
  • Experience with federal agencies managing storm impacts and storm recovery
  • Excellent communication skills; both oral and written
  • Have a clean driving record and active driver’s license
  • The ability to pass a federal background check and a drug screen
