SUMMARY

This position provides services related to delivering solutions for turnkey communications systems. This may include, but not limited to program and technical assistance planning networks, designing infrastructure, and supporting these network infrastructures. This includes all types of voice, data, and video networks, including converged networks of all multiple information domains.  Responsible for monitoring bandwidth utilization, network design and planning. Will provide services related to designing, delivering and maintaining solutions for both secure and non-secure data communications systems, which may include network management equipment, Internet Protocol (IP) equipment, channel banks, switching systems, wireless access points, encryption tools and interfaces, signal conversion and interface equipment. Will provide infrastructure management and monitoring capabilities to include the server, network (wired and wireless), and virtualization environments. Support shall include the use of facility network monitoring software or devices to provide proactive monitoring and alert notifications of mission critical assets.   

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintaining and administering computer networks and related computing environments including systems software, applications software, hardware, and configurations.
  • Responsible for creating and deleting network accounts, password management, and configuration management of servers, firewall, IPS/IDS, hubs, routers, and switches.
  • Support and maintain network devices, upgrade network devices and recommend equipment replacement.
  • Upgrade and install network equipment and software, and return malfunctioning devices to full operation.
  • Design, plan, establish, and optimize wireless networks.
  • Develop wireless network infrastructures and make recommendations on systems enhancements for optimization.
  • Provide technical assessment of requirements and definition from conception to launch.
  • Design and validate RF link performance, quality and reliability.
  • Use measuring and diagnostic tools to test and adjust equipment.
  • Confer with network users about solving existing system problems.
  • Create manuals and support documentation.
  • Optimize existing network by adjusting radio network parameters. Recommending possible solutions to hardware problems.
  • Monitor and analyze statistical and drive test data to improve system performance indicators such as dropped calls, blocked calls, origination failures, handoff features.
  • Perform disaster recovery operations and data backups when required.
  • Apply propagation theory, cellular theory, RF engineering tools and antenna theory to choose antenna placement.

SUPERVISORY/MANAGEMENT AUTHORITY

  • This position may direct the activities of other technical staff, providing training as needed.

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor degree in Information Technology related field of study with a network engineering focus.
  • Strong understanding of network infrastructure and network hardware.
  • Ability to think through problems and visualize solutions.
  • Ability to implement, administer, and troubleshoot network infrastructure devices, including wireless access points, firewall, routers, switches, controllers.
  • Knowledge of application transport and network infrastructure protocols.
  • Ability to create accurate network diagrams and documentation for design and planning network communication systems.
  • Provides specific detailed information for hardware and software selection.
  • Ability to quickly learn new or unfamiliar technology and products using documentation and internet resources.
  • Ability to work with all levels of staff within and outside of IT and outside the organization.
  • A self-starter able to work independently but comfortable working in a team environment.
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Dependable and flexible when necessary.
  • Network security experience.
  • LAN and WAN experience. 
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a favorable National Agency Check (NAC).
  • Must be a US citizen.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This position is primarily performed in a climate controlled office setting.
