Responsible for the overall operations of the assigned business segment. The Operations General Manager will plan, direct, and coordinate the activities of the manufacturing and support functions to meet quality standards, production goals, on-time service delivery all while maintaining a safe work environment. Provides the overall direction to the engineering, supply chain, scheduling, maintenance, metrology and quality functions. Responsibilities include formulating policies, setting goals and performance standards, and planning the use of materials and human resources within approved budgets. Provides leadership to assigned teams.  


Includes the following:

  • Responsible for the overall business planning, financial performance and operational excellence of assigned area.
  • Prepares and reviews project schedules, budgets and recommends technical and management solutions to technical problems that arise during production.
  • Responsible for implementing spending controls and cost savings initiatives in production, procurements and other areas to meet budget as well as quality and other initiatives.
  • Monitors and directs daily operations to ensure that policies and procedures are being followed, that goals and objectives are met, and that services are being provided efficiently and effectively in a safe environment; takes corrective action as necessary; and will personally direct difficult or  sensitive projects or business needs.
  • Ensures that production and support functions are efficiently planning for the use of materials, work flows and people to meet operational goals.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor strategies to achieve the company's long-term goals and objectives.
  • Supports the preparation contracts and bids; estimates costs and makes schedules; and ensures projects stay within budget. Negotiate contract renewals/extensions with existing customers as needed.
  • Resolve all customer concerns directly or through direct reports and provide feedback to management.
  • Provide regular updates to the leadership on customer/department issues.
  • Other duties may be assigned.


Directly and indirectly leads a large team. Position will also manage multiple projects. Provides leadership for employee through effective communications, coaching, training, establishing goals and developing employees and leaders. Has the authority to hire/fire/promote and direct the work of others.   


Requires a minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in engineering, business or other related field and 15 years of leadership experience in a manufacturing operations or equivalent combination of education and experience. Prior experience with government contracting and defense industry contractors is preferred.


  • Demonstrated ability to lead large groups of employees directly or through others.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, product and service descriptions.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office software and web-based applications such as those used in manufacturing operations.
  • Requires strong interpersonal, analytical, problem-solving, organizational and time management skill with strong attention to detail.
  • Requires the ability to work with cross-functional groups, coordinated work activities at all levels, excellent communication skills, and the ability to build internal/external relationships.
  • Quickly understand technical problems and can formulate the best resources to resolve and implement technical solutions.
  • Working knowledge of government contracting regulations (preferably related to the Aerospace & Defense industries).


Required to spend time in manufacturing environment. Ability to move throughout the facility and communicate to employees. May require travel including overnight trips.
