Part-time Chinese Linguist – Sierra Vista, AZ (ID#12611)

 

In direct service to the US Army, the 309th Military Intelligence (MI) Battalion is tasked to train soldiers in support of full spectrum military operations.  Some training events require realistic soldier interaction with appropriate personnel for role players and with foreign language-Speaking capabilities.  These personnel provide essential training experience to soldiers by realistically, accurately, and convincingly portray HUMINT and Counter Intelligence (CI) sources in a variety of role playing scenarios, in diversified settings and environments, such as practical and situational exercises.

 

The goal of the Linguist is to provide a realistic portrayal of the specified role, and target language, during a situational training exercise.

The position is part-time with intermittent scheduling. The requirements are in coordination with the 309th MI battalion. The average requirement is four (4) ten (10) hour days for one (1) week each month.  Ten (10) hours of travel on the day prior to and post event. The overall monthly hours will come to approximately 55-60hrs.

 

Lodging, vehicle rental for travel and per diem in accordance with government rates for the visiting county will apply.   Flight arrangements for candidates outside of an eight (8) hour driving radius from Sierra Vista, AZ will be considered upon management consent

 

Responsibilities:

  • Realistically, accurately and convincingly portray a variety of scenarios in diversified settings and environments, such as practical, situational and field training exercises and tests 
  • Memorize critical data contained in each role
  • Sufficiently familiar with each role so as to portray assigned role(s) with little reliance on or referral to the role script.
  • Convey information and data in response to students’ correct and proper interview skills, questioning and/or elicitation techniques, while simultaneously completing Student Evaluation Sheets, in accordance with government provided references, procedures and forms.

 

Qualifications:
 

  • A bachelor’s degree in the related language is highly recommended
  • A High School diploma and two (2) years related experience is a must.
  • Direct experience with situational training is highly preferred.
  • Ability to speak the Chinese language, Mandarin OR Cantonese at a conversational level
  • The ability to listen, speak and interact in the desired language fluently  
  • Must possess the ability to speak clear, correct, and concise grammar in the required language as well as English
  • Be able to translate oral communication from the target foreign language into English and in reverse as required for the training exercise
  • Must be a US Citizen
  • Have an Active Secret Clearance or the ability to obtain one
  • Must be able to pass a full federal background check investigation and a drug screen
