CNSP is looking for CNSP is looking for a Powers Systems Operations Instructor-Senior to support the Department of Energy (DOE) Western Area Power Administration (WAPA) Headquarters in Lakewood, CO and support our team providing technical services to the Electric Power Training Center (EPTC) under this Technical Support Services contract.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical training guidance and advice to EPTC customers or potential customers in pursuit of training information.
  • Includes explaining training program content and advising on appropriate level of class for student. Also provides directions and guidance on use of training registration procedures, software for taking class tests, training CD-ROM's, and the EPTC Website, etc.
  • Effectively acts as a "help" desk for these areas.
  • Finds best ways to communicate at a level of understanding appropriate for the client.
  • Respond to training related correspondence and inquiries requesting information regarding EPTC training classes, training curriculum, training schedules, training materials, etc.
  • Distributes appropriate training materials including schedules, course information, and logistical support information in response to requests.
  • Develop EPTC Audio/Visual Interactive Content under Supervision of EPTC Manager.
  • Maintain EPTC Registration System.

 

Supervisory/Management Authority:

  • This position may have supervisory or management authority designated as needed

Education and/or Experience:

  • Candidates must be US Citizens.
  • Candidates will undergo a US government federal background investigation and must be able to favorable pass a drug test.
  • BA/BS or MA/MS in Education/Teaching and at least ten (10) years of years of experience as an instructor with state/federal power systems is required.
  • Must possess extensive knowledge in federal power systems operations.
  • Knowledge of the application of instructional design and delivery practices and concepts.
  • In-depth practical knowledge of the theories, principles and practices of operation of hydro-power or other power plants, including the integration of generation systems with bulk power transmission.
  • Knowledge of Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) operation principles and procedures.
  • Ability to envision and create innovative simulation programs which can effectively replicate real-world conditions and problems often encountered by power plant operators and other power system specialists.
  • Knowledge of the operation of a number of pieces of specialized equipment such as computers, supervisory control equipment, and automatic generation control equipment and their application in power operations.
  • Ability to deal effectively with others.
  • Knowledge of the methods and techniques of instruction including making classroom presentations.
  • Skill in accurate and effective oral and written communication of technical subject.
  • Knowledge of Western Area Power Administration and its contractual relationships with firm electric service and transmission customers.
  • Renewable energy power operations integration understanding and experience.
  • Utilizing and applying computer software including Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Work Environment:

This position is primarily performed in a secured federal office setting, a controlled office environment as well as working outside in a job site diverse and changing weather environment.
