Cherokee Nation Technologies (CNT) supports federal clients and partners in their efforts to provide database and application support for both spatial and non-spatial systems. GIS, web and desktop applications support is applied to coastal restoration and management challenges primarily across the Gulf of Mexico.  In addition to using a broad range of computer based technologies to address a wide range of natural resource related issues.

 

The CNT team is engaged in assisting our client to provide desktop tools to help visualize scientific data. This involves frequent application change requests to keep software products relevant.

 

CNT is looking for a capable Computer Scientist with at least 5 years of experience.  A successful candidate will be enabled and given the knowledge to apply prior experience to geospatial, web application development which comprises about 80% of the work involved.  The geospatial web applications utilize client-side JavaScript (more specifically the ESRI JavaScript API and the Leaflet JavaScript API) and C#.NET server-side technologies. The remaining ~20% will require development using client-side JavaScript and C#.NET in both traditional .NET forms applications along with newer  MVC based forms web applications. Additionally, the candidate will be highly involved in developing C#.NET and Python server-side code libraries used to transform geospatial data in the ESRI geo-database format to SQL Server and/or PostgreSQL spatial formats used to drive the web mapping applications.

 

Responsibilities:

 

  • Perform work focused primarily on web mapping that includes tasks such as:
  • Preparing requirements documentation, software architecture, coding, code review, user interface (UI) development, UI testing, and UI documentation.
  • The candidate will also be responsible for designing, developing, maintaining, testing and performance tuning approximately three geospatially and or tabular driven web applications.
  • Relational database experience is also required to document, create, maintain, tune, test and administer approximately eight databases served by Microsoft and PostgreSQL relational database systems that serve tabular and spatial data to the various web mapping applications.
  • Where applicable, the candidate will also need to produce training materials to accompany custom built database solutions.
  • Provide technical guidance to other Advanced Application Team members.
  • Responsible for establishing logical development components to be assigned to other, junior team members for coding.
  • Responsible for review of others’ coding work product along with final assembly of various software component code and production “builds” followed by deployment to production application servers.

 

Qualifications:

 

  • Must be proficient with C#.NET, JavaScript and Python software development languages, along with T/SQL (MS SQL) or SQL (PostgreSQL) as an enterprise database communication language, and English as an oral and written communication language.

 

  • Must be proficient with Visual Studio as a primary development environment. A general understanding of GIS environments and geospatial data containers is required to architect, build and maintain geospatially driven web applications.

 

  • Must be proficient with code versioning and continuous integration concepts in general.  For this position, GIT, Microsoft Team Foundation Server, SVN, Jenkins and AWS code deploy are resources most commonly used by the web mapping applications team.

 

  • All work products will be delivered free and clear of any malicious code or grammatical errors and reviewed in a timely manner.

 

  • Participate in meetings related to applications development. All activities related to communications shall be thoroughly documented to ensure continuity of information is maintained. Interaction with other programmers on the Advanced Applications team and other agency programmers are necessary to ensure transparency.  Problems related to software use, or data manipulation and management are remedied immediately. In addition to documenting problems within the required reports, the client representative will be notified immediately of any problems that require their input.

 

  Work Environment:

 

  • Office environment, travel for field activities and or meetings may be needed
