CNT is looking to hire a Programmer/Analyst I to support the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) and their mission at their facility in Lafayette, LA.

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) in its leadership role in working to provide the scientific understanding and technologies needed to support the sound management and conservation of our Nation’s biological resources. Fulfilling this mission depends on effectively balancing the immediate need for information to guide management of biological resources with the need for technical assistance and long-range, strategic information to understand and predict emerging patterns and trends in ecological systems.

Many State and Federal natural resource management partners depend on USGS to provide web and desktop tools to manage and visualize scientific data. These active relationships result in frequent application change requests to keep software products relevant.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Design client-side, data driven, JavaScript user interfaces built on technologies such as REACT or VUE
  • Design enterprise relational database systems, especially using Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, and PostgreSQL to support headless and GUI applications
  • Development of server-side Application Programming Interfaces (API) that facilitate interaction between databases and various associated client applications
  • Assess large coding efforts to identify logical components that can be assigned to junior team members
  • Serve as point of contact for pull requests on large coding projects
  • Facilitate the storage, QA/QC, reporting, and dissemination of multi-scale biological and ecological field observation data
  • Development of server-side Application Programming Interfaces (API) that facilitate interaction between databases and various associated client applications. 
  • Assess large coding efforts to identify logical components that can be assigned to junior team members.  
  • Serve as point of contact for pull requests on large coding projects.
  • Provide an individual weekly report documenting coding products, including all database code segments, by using the government-provided code repository, ticket, and documentation platform

 

Qualifications:

  • BS in Computer Science or a closely related field is required; a Master’s degree is preferred.
  • Working experience with the following: C# .NET, Java, Python , JavaScript, JQuery, and MS SQL
  • Confident with software design and code development
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills to provide customer service
  • Excellent critical thinking and communication skills; both oral and written               
  • Ability to successfully pass a drug screen and federal background check is mandatory
