SUMMARY

The principal objective of division of medicine task order is to assist in the conduct the United States Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Disease (USAMRIID) medical training in the field of infectious disease and public health.  .

The core mission at USAMRIID is to protect the warfighter from biological threats.  Additionally USAMRIID also investigates disease outbreaks and threats to public health.  Research conducted at USAMRIID leads to medical solutions, therapeutics, vaccines, diagnostics and information that benefit both military personnel and civilians.  USAMRIID is a subordinate laboratory of the U.S. Army Medical Research and Material Command. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support vaccine development, with a focus on characterization of the immunological response to vaccination with multiple vaccine platforms and adjuvants
  • Antibody assays (ELISA, neutralization assays, antibody pulldown, etc.), cellular immunology assays (ELISPOT, intracellular cytokine staining, proliferation assays, cell sorting, etc.), and biomarker analysis (transcriptomics, cytokine/chemokine, clinical analytes, etc.) will be the primary focus
  • Ability to adapt a template protocol to assay specific requirements.
  • Comfortable with quality control, to the extent of providing documentation of duplicate studies for confirmation of accuracy and reproducibility
  • Well organized, capable of multi-tasking and with excellent documentation skills
  • Answer to study specific PIs, and should be capable of working both as a team and independently, depending upon the requirements of the task
  • Hold and maintain BPRP status

SUPERVISORY/MANAGEMENT AUTHORITY

No supervisory/management authority or describe supervision

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum of a MS degree in Biological Sciences AND
  • At least 8 years of experience in biomedical research
  • Experience with processing and storing biological samples with sterile technique
  • Experience with Assay development and optimization
  • Experience with mammalian cell culture, flow cytometry, and immune assays, including ELISPOT, ELISA and ICS, or equivalent
  • Experience with cell sorting by flow cytometry
  • Willingness to use animal models of vaccination and infection
  • Preferred experience in, or willingness to work in, BSL3 and BSL4 laboratories

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Obtain and maintain participation in the Biologic Personnel Reliability Program (BPRP ) for handling select agents required
  • Pass DoD BPRP health and security screening
  • Favorably adjudicated Single Scoped Background Investigation (SSBI) completed
  • FBI Security Risk Assessment (SRA) completed and approved
  • Highly organized self-starter with excellent customer service skills
  • Articulate and confident
  • Excellent organizational and documentation skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to gather project requirements and expectations for all levels of management to include in the project plan
  • Must be a US Citizen capable of passing a 5 year background check
  • Physically capable of lifting and carrying 30 pounds
