Cherokee Nation Technologies (CNT) supports the U.S. Geologic Survey (USGS) across the United States. CNT is currently looking for a Researcher Level I to assist the USGS, at their St. Petersburg, FL, site.

The Researcher I will provide scientific research and technical GIS support for the research and help support the USGS’s mission as they work for CNT.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Support the Center GIS lead in managing and updating existing ArcGIS Online web applications and story maps
  • Assist in publishing and maintaining REST and web mapping services on ArcGIS Server
  • Routine data input and updates of GIS data, ensuring accuracy, precision, & organization. QA/QC of project or internal GIS datasets
  • Provide GIS Support to center staff by assisting with GIS-related questions and creating map figures for data publications
  • Create/edit ArcGIS online web applications and story maps
  • Create/update the standard operating procedures documents for center enterprise geodatabases and other GIS data management functions
  • Provide back-up support to Center GIS lead for geodatabase administration and ArcGIS server administrative duties
  • Will be responsible for database duties such as manage and update the center’s samples database, an online repository of all rock, coral and sediment samples taken by center staff and affiliates
  • Update associated metadata and ensures the Arc Online web application are updated correctly upon completion
  • Review metadata prior to publication, ensures records are FGDC compliant and meet all USGS requirements
  • Attend monthly USGS Thesaurus conference calls
  • Assist authors with metadata questions

 

Qualifications:

  • A bachelor’s degree in computer science, geography, GIS, physical, natural science or a closely related field
  • Working knowledge of ArcGIS Desktop software, ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Server environment and SDE geodatabases
  • Specific knowledge of map scales, map projections, coordinate systems, datums, and geographic transformations
  • Experience with managing and maintaining geodatabases in a Postgres environment
  • Understanding of how to use models and Python scripts to automate GIS tasks.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Attention to detail and problem-solving abilities
  • Technical troubleshooting, creative problem solving, and resourcefulness a must. Ability to learn new things quickly and work in a team environment.
  • Excellent communication skills both oral and written
  • Ability to work independently and in a team
  • Pass a drug screen and federal background check
