Cherokee Nation Technologies (CNT) supports federal efforts to provide the scientific understanding and technologies needed to support the sound management and conservation of our Nation’s biological resources. 

Within the Wetland and Aquatic Research Center the overall goal of the Amphibian Research and Monitoring Initiative is to engage in field-oriented research on populations of herpetofaunal (amphibians and reptiles) communities and their habitats.

This Researcher V position is needed to assist CNT in performing research with two main two objectives:

 

Accomplishment and publication of original research of inherent scientific merit, contributing to knowledge of population demography, ecology and habitat requirements of amphibians and reptiles

 

Accomplishment of applied research of direct significance to the conservation and management of living vertebrate resources, particularly on behalf of partner federal agencies.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Serves in a technical capacity for projects
  • Utilizes programming code (SAS, R, etc.)
  • Utilizes graphing software and a Geographic Information System (GIS) to produce graphics and maps for data visualization and metadata for spatial information
  • Plans and executes data management
  • Conducts analysis needed to carryout portions of larger cross-discipline investigations related to ecological modeling
  • Manuscript writing
  • The following phases of work and deliverables are requested
  • Scientific publications of ecological modeling results
  • Operational forecasting results to inform species’ status assessment and future management
  • Intermediate and final summaries on schedule
  • Final data files and graphics are delivered at the end of the period of performance. Milestones of progress include completion of data QA/QC, graphics and visualization, summaries of model outputs, and report writing

 

Qualifications:

  • PhD in the study of biology or related field is mandatory for this position
  • Experience with ecological model applications is required
  • Skills in interacting with a team to coordinate data management and visualization
  • Experience working within project deadlines in a team environment
  • Knowledge and skills necessary to produce models and outputs and convey concepts (visualization and graphical processing)
  • Experience writing scientific publications is a must
  • A driver’s license will be required for local travel. In the office, prolonged sitting and working at a computer terminal will be required
  • Excellent communication skills; both oral and written
  • Successfully pass a drug screen and federal background check
