Cherokee Nation Technologies (CNT) supports USGS in its leadership role in developing and disseminating scientific information needed for understanding the ecology and values of our Nation’s wetland and aquatic ecosystems and for managing and restoring wetlands, coastal habitats, and associated living resources.

 

CNT is currently looking to hire a Scientist IV to assist the research facility in Lafayette, LA., to support their mission.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate the formation of work teams and the preparation of technical work products, coordination and information exchange with numerous cooperators and interagency team members
  • Schedule meetings, attending and recording major activities, track tasks to be accomplished and assure projects tasks are effectively and efficiently accomplished
  • Use experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals
  • Attend in person and virtual meetings (webinar/Conference Call) involving cooperators from USGS, other DOI, other Federal agencies and the five (5) coastal states to include: Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and Florida
  • Assist in laboratory analysis, computer data entry, data processing and publications of geophysical data from estuarine and coastal environments
  • Provide support in restoration project and program development and implementation, project and program data analysis, assessment, integration, reporting, coordination and information exchange with numerous cooperators, and project and program management R
  • Responsible for leading projects associated with Gulf restoration, structured decision making and adaptive management including development and implementation of tasks necessary to successfully develop and document restoration science, complete projects, including partner communication, planning, data collection, analysis, and publications
  • Responsible for writing and editing scientific and technical documents, and interagency communication and outreach

 

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Earth or Marine science is required
  • Master’s degree strongly is strongly desired
  • Working knowledge of science involving ecosystem restoration
  • Demonstrated skills in the management of environmental projects and programs
  • Ability to organize work teams and produce quality work products
  • Excellent communications skills; both oral and technical writing
  • Experience in data analysis, integration and reporting
  • Superior organizational skills, critical thinking and demonstrated ability to work independently
  • Computer literacy in basic Microsoft Office programs
  • Familiarity with monitoring  and adaptive management principles is preferred but not required
  • Ability to successfully pass a drug screen and federal background check
