Senior Java Developer  Fort Collins, CO ( ID # 14211 )

 

 

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) is the premier federal agency charged with protecting and enhancing America's treasured fish, wildlife, plants, and their habitats. USFWS works for the perpetuation of diverse and abundant wildlife because biodiversity is essential to maintaining the health of our environment, our families, and our economy. USFWS maintains a network of public lands totaling upwards of 150 million acres split in to 8 geographic regions and nearly 700 field stations.

 

We are looking for a Senior Java Developer to work with contract partners and FWS biologists to develop, upgrade, and maintain environmental conservation web applications that assist the USFWS in protecting threatened and endangered species.

 

 

Responsibilities:

 

  • Implement Java and Groovy web applications, using open source frameworks
  • Build interactive client-side features (including wizards) for displaying, gathering, and manipulating data and providing official government documentation
  • Collaborate closely with other team developers to design and develop new web applications and features
  • Work directly with Team Leads and Project Manager to identify work assignments
  • Engage in all aspects of sprint planning, including business analysis, gathering requirements directly from the FWS business team, breaking requirements into user stories, and providing work estimates
  • Perform code reviews of others’ work
  • Develop and maintain automated tests (unit, integration, and functional)

 

 

Qualifications:

 

  • JEE programming skills (JSP/Java, Groovy, JPA)
  • Experience with Web Frameworks (Grails, Spring)
  • Experience with Object Relational Mapping frameworks (Hibernate, GORM)
  • Experience with Relational Databases (Postgres is a plus)
  • Experience with Servlet Containers
  • Experience with client side interactivity and design using Javascript, HTML5, and CSS. ReactJS and Twitter Bootstrap are a plus
  • Experience with GIS technologies (we use ESRI products and Leaflet)
  • Experience with Tomcat
  • Experience with Linux operating systems
  • Excellent communication skills (written and oral).
  • Experience with Agile development methodologies is a plus

Experience with Java 1.8 language features (java.util.stream, lambas and        optional) is a plus

  • Undergraduate degree in Computer Science or related curriculum at an accredited college or university
  • Minimum four years of professional web programming experience
