Senior Research Associate
Joint Inflammation Modulation of Trauma Program (JIMoT)

This is a DoD research effort forcing on applied translational research aimed at reducing mortality and morbidity of severe combat casualty. Traumatic hemorrhage (TH) represents the leading cause of death from severe traumatic injuries in both military and civilian environments. TH accounted for 45-68% of U.S. military deaths in Operation Iraqi Freedom, and 90% of these deaths occurred prior to hospital arrival. Recent clinical and experimental studies have brought increasing evidence for activation of the innate immune system in contributing to the pathogenesis and adverse outcomes.

 

Our program is primary goal is to identify using animal models of TH and supporting clinical studies, selected immune-inflammatory molecules of therapeutic value to be administered early after injury in a pre-hospital setting. This work requires an expert understanding of molecular biology, protein biochemistry, immunology and medicine. Our Team member have experience in the field of medicine with educational degrees of Ph.D, M.D., M.S., B.S. or extensive experience in their particular technical areas of expertise.

Our client is in need of a Senior Research Associate to aid in their mission.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct laboratory research to support ongoing research initiatives.
    • Perform a variety of experiments to include: RNA/DNA isolation, microbiology techniques, immunoblotting, flow cytometry, immunohistochemistry, and multiplex immunoassays
    • Maintain sterility in cell culture environments
    • Complete research tasks independently or with little supervisory oversight
    • Accurately troubleshoot experimental protocols and provide technical feedback to supervisors as necessary
    • Compile experimental results and relate findings to relevant research questions
  • Support animal studies in small and large animal models.
    • Accurately follow detailed scientific protocols
    • Maintain compliance with relevant regulations and certifications for working with laboratory animals
    • Operate and/or monitor a variety of experimental monitoring and life support systems
    • Assist in protocols to include surgical trauma and bleeding, wound healing, and wound infection
  • Assist with day-to-day activities within the research laboratory including tracking inventory, recommending orders, preparing order paperwork, and ensuring standards of organization within research spaces.
  • Maintain records of ongoing research efforts to meet organizational standards.
  • Coordinate with others to carry out assigned research tasks.
  • Provide training and support to junior team members as required.
  • Monitor scientific literature in field of study for advances related to ongoing research
  • Assist in preparing manuscript and funding submissions

Qualifications:

  • MS degree in a biological science
  • 3+ years experience in laboratory research
  • 2+ years experience in animal studies (small and/or large animal models) related to one or more of:
    • surgical trauma and hemorrhage, wound healing, wound infection, immune system regulation, coagulation
  • Proficiency in standard word processing, data analysis, and presentation software
  • Ability to remain flexible in dynamic research environment
  • Documented contributions to peer-reviewed publications or thesis
  • Must be US citizen
