Summary

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) is the premier federal agency charged with protecting and enhancing America's treasured fish, wildlife, plants, and their habitats. USFWS works for the perpetuation of diverse and abundant wildlife because biodiversity is essential to maintaining the health of our environment, our families, and our economy.  USFWS maintains a network of public lands totaling upwards of 150 million acres split into eight geographic regions and nearly 700 field stations.

We are seeking a Java Developer to help support the efforts of the USFWS

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Includes the following:

  • Develop, test, implement and maintain web-based application systems
  • Troubleshoot system problems and issues and looks for ways to improve applications
  • Perform programming assignments that will require developing domain knowledge and experience. All tasks will require knowledge of established programming procedures and data processing requirements
  • Rely on instructions and pre-established guidelines and patterns to perform the functions of the job
  • Work directly with senior Team Lead to receive work assignments

Specific Skills and Requirements

  • JEE programming skills
  • Excellent communication skills (written and oral)

Supervisory/Management Authority

  • This position does not have management authority or supervisory capacity

 

Education and Experience

Four years full time Java development experience in an increasingly responsible position

  • Experience with client side interactivity and design principals using Javascript, XHTML or HTML5, and CSS (Like JQuery or Twitter Bootstrap)
  • Experience with Web Frameworks (Like Spring, Grails, or Struts)
  • Experience with Object Relational Mapping frameworks (Like Hibernate or JPA)
  • Experience with Relational Databases
  • Experience with Apache Tomcat
  • Any experience with cloud-based technologies is a plus(Amazon AWS preferred)
  • BS degree in Computer Science or related curriculum or equivalent.

  • This position is primarily in a secured office setting in a controlled office environment
