The Grain Inspection, Packers, and Stockyards Administration (GIPSA) is the U.S. Department of Agriculture's (USDA) agency that facilitates the marketing of livestock, poultry, meat, cereals, oilseeds, and related agricultural products, and promotes fair and competitive trading practices for the overall benefit of consumers and American agriculture.

GIPSAs Federal Grain Inspection Service (FGIS) has a suite of web-based applications known as FGISonline that is used by FGIS and its partners and customers for many business processes. FGISonline provides a secure environment in which to conduct business by providing centralized security and administration of information and applications available to agency employees and external users. The applications are accessed over the public Internet. 

Cherokee Nation Technologies has been tasked to design, develop, test and deploy a customer portal which will replace a manual ordering system. This new portal will allow GIPSA customers to request inspection and weighing services, calculate the cost of those services, allow user to pay for the services and generate certificates documenting the quality of the products being inspected.

We are looking for Deployment/Operations Engineers with experience using Infrastructure as Code and Configuration Management tools, deploying applications to local and remote systems. Experience developing backend applications is not required but definitely a plus.

Proximity to Fort Collins, CO or Washington, DC is good, but Full Time Telecommute is the current location.

Responsibilities:

  • Define, implement, and execute CI/CD automation for web, desktop, tablet, mobile software components
  • Support test automation processes
  • Diagnose and resolve build issues
  • Document build, configuration management, and related automation and processes
  • Manage and execute build and release in Visual Studio and TFS
  • Extend CI/CD and Configuration Management implementations to meet team objectives and improve existing processes
  • Write PowerShell automation wherever necessary.
  • Work effectively in an Agile Scrum environment
  • Provide guidance to team for deployment planning and tool usage

Required Qualifications:

  • 2+ year of TFS System Administration
  • 2+ year of creating and supporting build and release definitions in TFS, and developing related documentation
  • 2+ years of experience using TFS and related tools
  • 2+ year PowerShell coding experience
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code and Configuration Management tools
  • Experience with automation tools/platforms
  • Experience with alerting and monitoring tools
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently/with minimal direction
  • Great communication skills
  • U.S. Citizenship required

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of Puppet or other SCM tools a plus
  • 2+ years of experience with SQL and IIS administration and deployment methods
  • Experience in integrating automated tests (nUnit, Selenium, ReSharper) strongly preferred
  • Basic C# knowledge and skill in resolving package references strongly preferred
  • Knowledge of DevOps best practices and tools plus
