The Defense Health Agency (DHA) is a Combat Support Agency supporting the healthcare needs of our warfighters and beneficiaries throughout the Military Health System (MHS). The DHA is embarking on the monumental task of taking over management and oversight of all MHS Direct Care Facilities by October 2019 as mandated in Public Law 114-28, the 2017 National Defense Authorization Act. This transition is to achieve greater standardization of healthcare across the MHS and streamline management of healthcare activities. This new era will require increased knowledge sharing, agility, integration, and continuous improvement to positively influence the success of the current and future health of all stakeholders served.

CNSP (Cherokee Nation Strategic Programs) is seeking a Junior Strategic Communications and Knowledge Management Specialist to assist with the DHA Clinical Support Division (CSD), Patient Safety Program (PSP) and The Office of the Deputy of the Assistant Secretary of Defense Health Services Policy and Oversight (HSP&O) Programmatic and Technical support contract. This contract provides programmatic and technical support for the DoD PSP, the DHA CSD (Medical Affairs/J-3), and Office of Assistant Secretary of Defense (OASD) Health Affairs (HA) HSP&O in five major areas: professional consultative services, management studies/MHS/DoD data analysis, preparation of responses, reports, documents, and correspondences, meeting support and policy development/communication/education/drafts.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Supports the Strategic Communications and Stakeholder Engagement Lead with coordination amongst internal and external customers, coordination and collaboration of patient safety and governance meetings, identification of patient safety issues, and provision of consultative expertise to the Patient Safety Program (PSP) in developing strategic direction.
  • Assists in the development of internal communications and external stakeholder engagement across the evolving DHA using a wide range of media platforms.
  • Aids in the development of processes and systems that support effective international external communications plan for stakeholder engagement.
  • Drafts and edit content for social media, public announcements, fact sheets, presentations, and associated media and materials.
  • Drafts and edit content for articles in technical and general media publications, newsletters, and knowledge and technology transfer platforms.
  • Creates summaries and briefings of technical and/or research reports for technical and lay audiences.

Supervisory/Management Authority:

  • This position will not have supervisory or management authority

Education and/or Experience:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Business Administration or a closely related field is required
  • A Master’s degree in Marketing, Communications or an MBA is preferred
  • One (1) to four (4) years of direct experience with Marketing and Strategic Communications in a medium or large healthcare organization, Defense Health Agency (DHA) experience is preferred.
  • Experience conducting effective technical presentations to client management and professional coordination with a variety of project stakeholders
  • Strategic Communications Implementation experience
  • Working experience with federal directives, agency, and department regulations is preferred
  • Experience with Quality Management and Patient Safety principals

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 

  • Excellent organizational, critical thinking and communication skills; both oral and written
  • Ability to work well under pressure, multitask and meet aggressive deadlines
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, SharePoint and other knowledge sharing platforms for monitoring and tracking
  • Proficient with Social Media and Marketing Proficiency
  • Have a proactive approach, a proactive attitude and takes initiative without prompting
  • Dependable, reliable and accountable
  • Manage an multitask across multiple communications and outreach projects simultaneously, prioritizing demands on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis
  • U.S. Citizenship and DoD government security clearance NACI required.
  • The ability to pass as drug screen and a federal background check is mandatory.
