The 82d Training Operations (TO) needs Information Technology (IT) support to sustain specific aspects of the wing’s training environment at Sheppard AFB. This requirement is due to the fast pace changes in information technology, standard configurations, electronic technical data management and the expanding transformations in learning and instructional innovations. There is a profound need for IT expertise to support the transient student population and special projects. Areas of support are technical training classrooms, Standard Desktop Configuration (SDC), rugged tablet/laptop computers (eTools), electronic technical orders (eTOs), student account management, Common Access Card (CAC) Personal Identification Number (PIN) Reset Systems (CPR), as well as innovation/technology support for immersive training technologies, classroom modernization and mobile network device implementation.

Cherokee Nation Strategic Programs is seeking a systems support technician to provide support the 82d TO with network environment (NE) and advanced level Computing Environment (CE) support at Sheppard AFB, TX.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the sustainment of specific aspect of the wing’s training environment at Sheppard AFB by performing a wide variety of IT related task
  • Will pay special attention to intrusion detection, finding and fixing unprotected vulnerabilities, and ensuring that remote access points are well secured
  • Will focus on threats and vulnerabilities and improve the security of systems
  • Assist with other tasks and projects as needed

Supervisory/Management Authority:

  • This position will not have supervisory or management authority

Education and/or Experience:

  • A bachelor’s degree in a related field is highly desired
  • A high School Diploma or equivalent is mandatory
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in Information Assurance (IA) technology or a closely related area, preferably in a US Air Force, Military or DoD setting

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 

  • Excellent organizational and communication skills; both oral and written
  • Have superior client interaction and problem solving skills
  • Capability to recognize a potential security violation, take appropriate action to report the incident as required by regulation, and mitigate any adverse impact as well as recognize a potential security violation, take appropriate action to report the incident as required by regulation, and mitigate any adverse impact
  • Ability to provide end user IA support for all CE operating systems, peripherals, and applications, support, monitor, test, and troubleshoot hardware as well as software IA problems pertaining to their CE
  • Capability to apply CE specific IA program requirements to identify areas of weakness.
  • Ability to apply appropriate CE access controls and to install and operate the IT systems in a test configuration manner that does not alter the program code or compromise security safeguards.
  • Ability to conduct tests of IA safeguards in accordance with established test plans and procedures.
  • Ability to implement and monitor IA safeguards for CE system(s) in accordance with implementation plans and standard operating procedures.
  • Ability to apply established IA security procedures and safeguards and comply with responsibilities of assignment.
  • Capacity to comply with system termination procedures and incident reporting requirements related to potential CE security incidents or actual breaches, implement online warnings to inform users of access rules for CE systems
  • Ability to implement applicable patches including IA vulnerability alerts (IAVA), IA vulnerability bulletins (IAVB), and technical advisories (TA) for the CE operating system(s) as well as install, test, maintain, and upgrade CE operating systems software and hardware to comply with IA requirements.
  • Ability to understand and implement technical vulnerability corrections, enter assets in a vulnerability management system, apply system security laws and regulations relevant to the CE being supported.
  • Capability to implement Dept. of Defense (DoD) and DoD Component password policy.
  • Ability to implement specific IA security countermeasures.
