We are seeking a Systems Administrator Intermediate who is responsible for assisting leadership in determining tactical and strategic direction of the organization as it relates to emerging system support technologies; researches, analyzes, and recommends new system support technologies, tools, and techniques; and provides technical support for operational initiatives through participation in proposals and operational studies.  The position will be responsible for the administration and support of our existing Windows OS, SCCM, in-house applications and MSSQL servers; possess an understanding of VMware infrastructure and VDI administration; and experience in building and maintaining virtual servers.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Plan, architect, implement, document and maintain system infrastructure enhancements and new technologies.
  • Support customers and employees via email, telephone, and face-to-face interaction.
  • Provide software maintenance (updates, installation, security patches).
  • Maintain system backup procedures.
  • On-call and after-hours duties.
  • Train users in conversion of systems.
  • Performs troubleshooting for servers and related resources; gathers the information, assess the problem, determine the resources, and leads the resolution.
  • Implements maintenance on assigned server hardware/software; applies upgrades, services packs, and repairs.
  • Manage backups for recovery purposes.
  • Participates in project planning for system services.
  • Build/Administer virtual servers and virtual desktops through VMware ESX server.
  • Provide administration, documentation, and implementation expertise in OS best practices, including managing highly available servers (web, application, database and application clustering) and writing administration policies.
  • Configure/administer primarily Windows servers and Internet Technologies and protocols such as DNS, Mail, HTTP, and DHCP.
  • On-call availability on a team rotation. 
  • Performs other job related duties as required.

Education and/or Experience

  • Requires a minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field of study and 2 years of IT experience in a mid- to large-sized environment.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Possess knowledge of basic networking protocols and methodologies.
  • Must have understanding of VMware infrastructure and VDI administration.
  • Communication skills, highly organized, work well under pressure and handle multiple projects at once.
  • Possess strong organizational and prioritization skills.
  • Be self-motivated, positive, can-do approach and team player.
  • Will involve physical labor, mental and visual efforts due to the nature of the job.
  • Ability to sit for extended periods.
  • Must have dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, power tools, and to handle other computer components.
  • Needs to be able to lift and transport moderately heavy objects, such as chassis, blades, physical servers and other compute/storage related equipment.
  • Valid driver’s license and insurance required.

  • This position is primarily performed in a climate controlled office setting.
