We are seeking a Technical Writer to support the U.S. Coast Guard’s Surface Forces Logistics Center’s Technical Information Management Branch with providing life cycle management support of technical publications. The Technical Information Management Branch is a part of the Surface Forces Logistics Center’s located in Baltimore, Maryland.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop, publish, amend, and maintain technical publications used to support the Coast Guard
  • Attend Meetings and Conferences as directed by the Contracting Officer’s Rep. (COR)
  • Complete other ad-hoc requests for technical data as required

SUPERVISORY/MANAGEMENT AUTHORITY

  • This position does not have management authority or supervisory capacity

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum education requirement of an Associate' s degree or at least two (2) years of task related experience
  • Customer service experience
  • Experience with working in teams and independently
  • Working knowledge of word processing software applications
  • Experience writing, editing and managing technical documentation and operator/maintenance manuals for military systems and equipment
  • Preferred experience creating/modifying documents using software tools such as Arbortext and other specialized publishing software
  • Demonstrate good written and oral communication skills and organizational abilities

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Ability to work independently with little oversight by the government under direction of a technical lead in the Technical Information management Branch (TIMB) Visual Information Team
  • Ability to conceptualize, format, structure, write, edit and finalize technical manuals, orders, specifications, modification work orders, and test plans, procedures and results
  • Demonstrate good oral/ written communication skills and organizational abilities
  • Excellent analytical skills and working knowledge of computer systems and integrated software application programs are required

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • This position is primarily performed in an Office environment inside of a federally secured facility
