The US Coast Guard Technical Information Management Branch is a part of the Surface Forces Logistics Center’s Engineering Services Division located in Baltimore Maryland and is comprised of two sections: Drawings & Graphics Support Section, (DGSS); and Publication Production & Distribution Section, (PPDS). TIMB was established to support the missions of the SFLC and C4IT Service Center communities through the acquisition, development, maintenance and distribution of current and accurate technical information and data. 

 

We are looking for a Technical Writer/Editor to assist in their mission.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Promulgating technical data products including Maintenance Procedure Cards (MPCs), Time Compliance Technical Orders (TCTOs) and Technical Standards, as well as providing assistance to produce other technical or process documents for promulgation.
  • Convert MS Word source documents in USCG standard eXtensible Markup Language (XML) templates to PDF for final publication
  • Support publication activities including production of indexes and change documentation, creation of manuals, and ultimately upload and activation in the enterprise content management system in accordance with publication schedules

 

Qualifications:

  • Minimum education requirement of an Associate’s degree or at least five (5) years of job-related experience or equivalent.
  • Demonstrate good written communication skills, detail-oriented and organizational abilities.
  • Working knowledge of word processing and integrated software applications used to perform related tasks.
  • Technical Writers working with XML publishing MUST have experience creating/modifying documents using software tools such as Arbortext and other specialized publishing software.
  • Must gain a working level understating of CG-LIMS STIP, which is the system of record for all USCG Surface and C4i Technical Data.
  • Senior Technical Writer/Editors must be able to gain an understanding of and work with ASD – S1000D, the International Specification for numbering Technical Information.
  • Ability to successfully pass a federal background check and drug screens is required
