Cherokee Nation Business is looking for a Technical Writer to support the Department of State’s (DOS) Information Resource Management (IRM) Messaging Systems Office (MSO) Division. 



Produces and maintains documentation related to programming, systems and user guides. Drafts and organizes documentation efforts, including online help and written user guides. Utilizes business specifications and technical data to write user documentation. Relies on limited knowledge and professional discretion to achieve goals. Works under general supervision and usually reports to a supervisor, though a certain degree of ingenuity and flexibility is required.





  • Plan, develop, organize, write, and edit operational procedures and manuals
  • Research, develop, and document technical design specifications
  • Use approved style guide. Work with developers and other systems engineering staff to find necessary information to fill out templates
  • Prepare documentation using standard office software using templates and other document creating methods
  • Analyze documents to maintain continuity of style of content
  • Strong research ability as well as desire to learn new technologies/methods
  • Ability to be advocate for methods and processes
  • Ability to proofread other staff’s documents. Ability to build diagrams and other complex systems documentation






  • Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism or English
  • Proficiency in MS Office
  • 3 to 5 years of professional technical editing/writing experience
  • 2-3 years’ experience collaborating with Product/Engineering organizations in an Agile/Scrum environment
  • 2-3 years’ experience collaborating with Product/Engineering organizations in an Agile/Scrum environment
  • Stellar writing and editing skills with a focus on quality and attention to detail
  • Able to write in explanatory and procedural styles for multiple audiences
  • Skilled at prioritization and multi-tasking
  • Excellent verbal communication skills



  • “Minimum Active Secret SECURITY CLEARANCE LEVEL required” in order to remain eligible for employment, per contract and government requirements.”

  • Required experience: 3-5 years of Technical Writing or similar work experience.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office software.
  • Familiarity of IT systems, IT systems security and terminology
