Our client, for Cherokee Nation Technologies (CNT) is working with others to provide the scientific understanding and technologies needed to support the sound management and conservation of our Nation’s biological resources. We are devoted to answering ecological questions by both human-made and natural environmental changes in the southeastern United States and Caribbean Basin.

We are looking for a knowledgeable Technician, who has the ability to perform extensive fieldwork in aquatic and wetland habitats to assist with field studies, laboratory analysis, and database management.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with acquiring biological and environmental data in the field, including collection of sediment, water, and tissue samples
  • Process sediment cores, water samples, and tissues in the field
  • Process, sort, and identify benthic marine invertebrates from sediment cores
  • Enter data into digital database
  • With prior acknowledgement and approval of Task Manager, undertake necessary coursework and/or professional and technical training to maintain and develop essential computer and professional skills and certifications

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 2 years of undergraduate coursework in biology, zoology, ecology, fishery biology, or wildlife management and conservation (Individual may be in pursuit of an undergraduate degree.)
  • Experience at state or federal resource agencies, nongovernmental conservation organizations, or a university is preferred
  • Thorough knowledge of standard software programs (e.g., MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) applicable to accomplishing project goals is required
  • Good Written & verbal communication skills
  • Ability to lift 25 to 50 lbs. if needed
  • Working knowledge of research lab techniques and procedures
  • Ability to travel for research
