SUMMARY

Provide support to the United States Attorney's Office for the Southern District of California (USACAS). The USACAS is responsible for prosecuting one of the largest criminal and civil caseloads in the nation. It is the second largest city in California and the sixth largest in the United States. As such, it experiences the common complex of criminal activities-violent, drug related and white collar­ present in any metropolitan area. Because of its location, the USACAS continues to be a major corridor for both illegal immigration and illicit drug trafficking activities. Note: the San Ysidro Port of Entry, 15 miles south of downtown San Diego is the busiest land border crossing in the world-inspecting more than 46 million persons and 14 million vehicles annually. Position will support day-to-day litigative and administrative operations of the USACAS.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Includes the following:

  • Serves as a Visitor Control Receptionist for the U.S. Attorney's Office.
  • Processing visitors into the office, regulating visitor traffic by monitoring the identification of individuals, and maintaining a daily visitor log.
  • Provides visitors with information or refers to appropriate person or agency.
  • Adheres to all applicable security policies governing the office.
  • Notifies appropriate authorities of unauthorized access attempts to the U.S. Attorney's office spaces.
  • Coordinates with Federal or local Law Enforcement for escorting apprehended individuals out of the office.
  • Maintains a calendar of all assigned active cases, which includes keeping track of filings, hearings, trial dates, and scheduling conferences and interviews
  • Must be able to respond to all possible situations; ability to detect attempts at trespassing.

SUPERVISORY/MANAGEMENT AUTHORITY

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • This position requires a minimum of 1 year law enforcement experience

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Knowledge of security practices; knowledge of office procedures sufficient to refer calls or provide routine and factual information to visitors.
  • Ability to pass a basic Federal background investigation

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This position is performed in a climate controlled office setting.  Some travel may be required.
