Provide patient transport services. Paramedic will be teamed with a Government provided nationally certified EMT-Basic to accompany/drive a Government provided ambulance. Provide full emergency patient transport at Sheppard AFB (SAFB) and all associated housing areas on Sheppard AFB. Emergency response and transport services will be coordinated via the 911 operators at SAFB Fire Department.


  • Emergency paramedic response and patient transport
    • Travel to response sites in an appropriate medical response vehicle per directions received from the 911 dispatcher at the SAFB Fire Department. Ambulance/paramedic shall be on-sight treating patients within eight minutes of notification. Transferring patients from 82d Medical Group/Sheppard Air Force Base to the Government designated healthcare organization, ensuring that a paramedic is with the patient at all times.
    • Provide prepositioned ambulance coverage for military sponsored events such as parades, Wing Change of Commands and Air Shows. Additional paramedic coverage may be requested for such events. Requests will be approved by the 82d MDOS/CC and coordinated through the FRED in advance.
    • Maintain appropriate radio contact with Ch-2 or Fire Control (911 dispatch center) at all times while in-transit and conferring with physician as necessary
    • Provide medical advice and guidance to Air Traffic Controllers for relay to endangered inbound aircraft.
    • During all major accident responses, obey all directives of the Senior Fire Officer (SFO) or On Scene Commander.
    • Provide full Advanced Life Support paramedic care and treatment necessary to maintain the patient’s medical status.
    • Coordinate in-field care in accordance with Texas Department of Health Emergency Management System protocols with local hospitals. For specific guidance, will communicate with the Medical Control Officer (MCO) who will be the Medical Director.
    • Coordinate patient transport with local hospitals
    • Transport patients to local hospitals as needed
    • Provide ambulance response to in-flight physiological emergencies. Coordinate with Flight Surgeon on Call (FSOC) regarding patients requiring treatment at a hyper-baric support facility
    • Ensure a paramedic remains with patients until patients are properly accepted by a qualified member of the receiving hospital.
    • Notify FSOC (after duty hours) of any aircraft mishap, physiological incident, or hydrazine exposure
    • Provide reports, as required, concerning number of responses, transports, and summaries of care for individuals requiring transport and treatment from SAFB and related housing areas in addition to those resulting from any flight line related or in-flight emergency scenarios.
  • In-flight emergency response: responsible for secondary medical response to all flight line emergencies during normal duty hours and primary response after duty hours, weekends, federal holidays, and hospital closures for in-flight emergencies on Sheppard AFB, TX. Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
    • Contact a member of the Flight Surgeon’s Office (FSO) at the MDG for assistance in analyzing any given in-flight situation. Flight Medicine will provide the contractor with a Flight Surgeon On-Call (FSOC) contact number. After normal duty hours, the MDG point of contact for in-flight emergencies will be the FSOC.
    • Respond and obey all directives of the Senior Fire Officer or Flight Surgeon.
  • Participation in 82d Training Wing, 80th Flying Training Wing and MDG exercises
    • Participate in advance exercise preparatory meetings.
    • Assist 80th Flying Training Wing, 82d Training Wing, and MDG Exercise Evaluation Team (EET) with developing exercise scenarios, goals, and objectives.
    • Respond with paramedics to exercise sites and performing mock duties as needed.
    • During all major accident responses, obeying all directives of the Senior Fire Officer or On-Scene Commander.
    • Provide mock field patient care and mock patient transport during exercises.
    • Participate in after-action exercise meetings and completing written critiques as requested.
    • g. Provide detailed exercise analysis, as requested, by members of the 80th Flying Training Wing, 82d Training Wing, and MDG EET.
    • h. If a real world emergency occurs during an exercise, the contractor will respond to the emergency.
  • Unless actively engaged in the above activities, supporting the MDG clinic during normal duty hours.   Assist with patient care within the clinic when not performing emergency response or transport services. Support clinic activities under the direction of the Flight Commander of designated clinic. Emergency response and transport services take priority. Specific activities and procedures include, but are not limited to the following:
    • Screening of patients, assisting in taking patients’ history, reconciling medications, responding to telephone consultations and secure messaging.
    • Assisting the clinical staff with procedures such as starting intravenous lines, casting, splinting, and electrocardiograms.
    • Administrative duties such as weekly/daily work schedules.
    • Re-stocking clinical/storage rooms and verifying expiration dates.
    • Any other activities at the discretion of the Flight/CC.


  • High school degree or have received a General Education equivalency certificate.
  • Nationally certified by the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians possess a current state driver’s license
  • Shall be BLS, ACLS and PALS certified. Paramedics shall be proficient in treatment protocols associated with DCS
  • Proficiency training for all ambulances being operated.
  • Shall have provided services in their respective specialties a minimum of six months within the past 12 months.


  • Copy of valid, current, unrestricted National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians Card–Classification Type: EMT-Paramedic.
  • Paramedic education and training files.
  • Current, valid Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certifications.
