Cherokee Nation Technologies (CNT) supports federal clients in their leadership role in conducting a wide range of geologic, geophysical, morphologic, oceanographic, and climate investigations.

 

CNT requires assistance in direct support to ongoing research related to the impacts of natural hazards and assessments of potential restoration efforts. Projects/efforts include development of software and computational tools, development and application of numerical models, and analysis of model output and field data.   Below are the requirements:

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Participate scientists in conducting and accomplishing research assignments.
  • The work will include the main activities below, The work has 5 major components:
  •  Development and application of coastal numerical models
  •  Support dissemination of data and numerical model output
  •  Development of scripts and computational tools
  •  Analysis and merging of spatially and temporally variant data sets on a variety of scales
  •  Maintenance, development, and operations support of instrumentation and associated software
  • Development and application of coastal numerical models
  • Support dissemination of data and numerical model output
  • Development of scripts and computational tools
  • Analysis and merging of spatially and temporally variant data sets on a variety of scales
  • Drive personal or federal government vehicles as required (on average once a month) within  ten (10) miles to several hundred-miles at a time.

Supervisory/Management Authority: 

· This position will /will not have management authority or supervisory capacity

Education and/or Experience:

  • A Ph.D. in Oceanography, Coastal Engineering or a closely related field is highly desired
  • A Master’s degree in coastal engineering, oceanography, coastal geology, marine science or related field is required
  • Experience with developing and running numerical hydrodynamic and/or morphodynamic models such as Delft3D, XBeach, ADCIRC, SWAN.
  • Experience in data collection and field work or related internships

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Demonstratable skills in developing and running coastal numerical hydrodynamic and/or morphodynamic models; such as Delft3D, XBeach, ADCIRC, SWAN.
  • Demonstrable skills in Matlab and one or more other computer programming languages.
  • Working knowledge of data entry, figure preparation for publication and presentations, and scientific literature or data searches
  • Have a valid driver license and dependable means of transportation.
  • Must adhere to all computer security clearance requirements of the agency (training and testing).
  • Excellent problem solving and communication skills; both oral and written
  • Must successfully pass a drug screen and federal background check

Work Environment:

· This position is performed primarily in an office environment with routine exposure to the elements due to outside field activities.
