CNT is seeking a Senior Data Architect who will design, create, and maintain the organization’s data architecture. The right candidate will participate and help lead the migration of an enterprise Oracle database to PostgreSQL and develop strategies for data acquisitions, archive recovery, and implementation of databases and data storage. The ideal candidate will provide a high-level of proficiency with translating business needs into long-term architecture solutions. Must work with technical staff to understand issues encountered and develop specifications to resolve them. The candidate will collaborate well within a small team as well as independently to ensure tasks are completed within the appropriate time frame.

Cherokee Nation Technologies uses the Agile Framework with Scrum, team members will be expected to participate in daily and weekly stand-ups, retrospectives and sprint planning. Must be comfortable with changing deliverables, deadlines, and projects using a variety of different technologies.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Includes the following:

  • Design, create, document, deploy and manage the organization's data architecture based on business requirements
  • Develop strategies for database implementation and data storage, acquisition and recovery.
  • Propose and lead the implementation of data security solutions
  • Propose and evaluate multiple design alternatives and recommend the most efficient and cost-effective solution.
  • Collaborate and communicate DBAs, project managers, and other team members to design and develop appropriate, efficient, and useful architectures
  • Maintain quality and ensure responsiveness of  databases
  • Review and redesign legacy architecture and port content via database migrations, to increase efficiency or to adapt to new requirements and available technology
  • Assist in the collection and documentation of user's requirements, development of user stories, and estimates.
  • Analyze and resolve technical problems
  • Partner and communicate with stakeholders at all levels of the organization on development requests to determine feasibility and devise application solutions to these business problems
  • Performs other job related duties as assigned.

 

SUPERVISORY/MANAGEMENT AUTHORITY

No supervisory or management authority.

 

EDUCATON AND EXPERIENCE

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Information Systems, Computer Science, or similar degree plus 7 year of experience

OR

  • Master’s degree in Computer Information Systems, Computer Science, or similar degree plus 5 years of experience

OR

  • Doctorate degree in Computer Information Systems, Computer Science, or similar degree plus 3 years of experience
  • 5+ years of demonstrable skills in logical and physical data modeling, database management, data replication, data warehousing and ETL.
  • 5+ years of demonstrable experience in relational databases, including Oracle and preferably PostgreSQL, and light mobile databases, such as SQLite.
  • Experience in database optimization and SQL query tuning.
  • Experience in 3-tier software architecture implementation, REST architectural style, SOAP protocol and HTTP, JSON and XML standards.
  • Experience in NoSQL databases and document stores, such as ElasticSearch and MongoDB.
  • Experience working in an Agile development team.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Ability to design, create, document, deploy and manage data architectures
  • Skilled with developing strategies for database implementation and data storage, acquisition and recovery.
  • Skills required to propose and lead implementation efforts for data security solutions
  • Aptitude to evaluate various design alternatives, demonstrate the pros and cons of each and ultimately recommend the most efficient and cost-effective solution.
  • Ability and knowledge of logical and physical data modeling, database management, data replication, data warehousing and ETL.
  • Hands-on experience in relational databases, including Oracle and preferably PostgreSQL, and light mobile databases, such as SQLite.
  • Hands-on experience in database optimization and SQL query tuning.
  • Hands-on experience in 3-tier software architecture implementation, REST architectural style, SOAP protocol and HTTP, JSON and XML standards.
  • Skilled with NoSQL databases and document stores, such as ElasticSearch and MongoDB.
  • Able to work in an Agile development team.
  • Excellent writing and communications skills.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Function well in a fast-paced environment.
  • U.S. citizenship required.
